I came across that literally last night and thought it would be a great place to look. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t load properly on archive.org. I found the commercial breaks on YouTube, but only the credits for the first three eps seem to have been included (all which have the seagulls noise).

I'm thinking this is something that doesn't actually exist, then.
"oooh, you're a- a freaked out child in the woods..."

Yep. I’ve always been skeptical considering the statement was never sourced, nor is there an edit reason on the page history. It’s unfortunately extremely common for people to make up fake variants of logos. I think we can consider this case closed.

Not exactly an update, but someone (I assume NostalgiaGuy) recently changed the part about the logo variant to “ It has been rumoured that early split-screen versions had a foghorn sound, however this variation has yet to surface.” Which is good because more people will know this version is currently unconfirmed to exist. So if someone does indeed know of it, hopefully they’ll let us know after reading the section.

Yes that was me, a lot of the unsourced claims on that site still survive because they were simply copied and pasted from the original site when they moved it so there’s a lot of little bits here and there that haven’t been updated or fixed.
After I watched the LSSQ video which brought up this whole search, I did a bit of digging and it seems that I've found a weird gray area for the audio that plays during the UPP logo that could be some sort of lead.
The only SpongeBob split screen credits I could find online from the timeframe previously stated was from an unknown date in 2001 (show below and here), and instead of the end credits theme or the ocean sounds playing, in this instance it played audio related to the promo that was attached. In this case, it's the theme song for The Fairly OddParents. Now, this got me thinking that maybe the foghorn audio came from an unrelated Nick promo of some kind which would have played over the split screen credits. Obviously none of this can be confirmed for sure, but considering it fits directly within the speculated window of time, it's certainly an option to consider for future searching. Maybe looking through some Nick promos from this time could wield the speculated sound?
Another thing to note: This was posted on the LMW Discord yesterday by user FritzAnimates:
"Regarding the United Plankton "foghorn" variant, a commenter on YouTube brought this up. I found the commercial compilation they were talking about (well, a similar one anyhow), and the Nickelodeon logo (at 0:28) does indeed have a foghorn.....ish sound effect. Evidently there were multiple versions. I don't know if this is what we're looking for, but it's a start I suppose. (link to commercial break)" This gives credence to the idea that the foghorn audio may have not been apart of (or at least wasn't exclusive to) the UPP logo, and might have just been apart of the Nickelodeon logo they used in the early 2000s used on basically all of their animated programming (including SpongeBob), or even the audio being attached to the promo as I mentioned earlier. Stuff like this could have easily been misconstrued over time through false memories when the rumors about this variant started, thus misattributing the foghorn audio to UPP. SpongeBob is a show that makes use of the foghorn quite a bit (like with the famous alarm clock), so if anything was to be attributed through false memory, it would be them.

That’s definitely gotta be the answer, it makes the most sense out of anything we’ve encountered so far. It’s very likely just misattributing like you’ve said due to the prominence of foghorn noises in SpongeBob however there could be a rare variant where the foghorn does occur on a SpongeBob version of the Nickelodeon logo as the noise seems cut off a bit.
I found it in another compilation featuring Ren and Stimpy so it seems to have been only used for that show however I could be wrong: youtu.be/HjPGTuyxkTA
You can find a compilation of the variants for that Nickelodeon logo here. You’ll notice a lot of them have the audio from the previous logo containing over it including United Plankton with the seagulls and waves: youtu.be/ro1khiEUnqE

Yeah, I actually researched it months ago and also noticed there were instances where the music from the ad that was playing just continued over the logo.
Just an FYI, there’s a fake recreation of it going around where someone just layered the alarm clock foghorn overtop the regular logo. You can tell it’s fake as the audio just clips in and interrupts the music which would finish over the logo on early episodes.
Please don’t believe it’s the real deal cause it’s not, it’s just someone trying to interrupt the search and cash in on it similar to what happened with the lost TAT logo. youtu.be/H9HesFthId8
