There are many different methods. This is just one that I've put through the rigors:
1.) Go here. It's a glorified survey site; they pay someone like you to answer questions from business entities about how to mess with people. Whenever a major product undergoes design changes, it's usually based on survey responses; when TV networks prepare for the new season, they have survey takers screen and review test pilots; whenever a news program mentions "a recent study" or "a recent poll", those "studies" and "polls" are conducted on sites like this one. Keep that in mind.
2.) Create an account; you can use a burner email address, just remember it for each login.
3.) Head over to the 'Tasks & Surveys' section and test out the various providers; I've found CPX to be the most reliable of the bunch. When taking surveys, remember your status as a wealthy, working decision maker, gifted with consistency and an interest in the subject at hand; if you forget those unquestionable facts, they may be less inclined to reward you. Also, don't spam.
4.) As you work your way through, survey offers will start to dwindle or repeat within a handful of hours, effectively ending the session. A successful run will yield you a few dollars-worth of XNO. When you're logged out or experiencing a service outage, you can still check your account balance by copying your wallet address over to here.
5.) How do you turn the XNO into stuff? Well... A.) There are some businesses that will take it directly. B.) There are at least four sites that can exchange it for gift cards (here & here seem to have the most options). C.) ATM and traditional banking exchange services are also available, but most of them require you to submit identification. D.) Craigslist (good luck with this one).

Additionally, you can use file vending sites to buy and sell digitized stuff; Vixxi and NanoWall are two such sites. With the latter, I was able to sell a vintage TV schedule from Duluth, so I've since added one from Richmond.
6.) If you want to use a different survey site, Get-XNO is another option. Make sure your email address is always active for this one. Their CPX surveys are rationed each day, however, so make your selections wisely; other survey brands shown don't necessarily work as they should. Check the withdraw page on the dashboard to make sure they have enough to pay you at the given moment.

If your interested in getting paid for reading and writing articles, Publish0x has been modestly doing so for years. The two guys that run it are able to reward each user, because they've made a bunch of money during "good early seasons" and can afford to do it. Heck, they'll even let you tip the same article more than once. They also have surveys, but the payouts are slightly lower than the previously mentioned survey sites.
