So most people know about Ghost Stories via it's piss-taking English dub by ADV, however there is one episode of that show that never aired anywhere, not even in Japan as it attracted so much controversy the scheduled airing was pulled(and all that remains is a commercial for it, much like the unaired Pokemon episodes Shaking Island Battle and the Team Rocket vs Plasma two parter). See the episode was supposed to be about the ghost of a woman who had a deformed cleft-palate on her face, but Fuji TV received tons of complaints from viewers who saw the depiction as offensive to people with deformities in real life so as a result the episode was never broadcast and never dubbed anywhere.
Personally i'd love for that episode to see the light of day so someone could do their own English fan-dub of it.

I'd love to see it as well. Something that I'm not sure if it's been confirmed or not is if the cast ever got to see the episode when they were recording. I'd be very curious to know what the dub would even look like given how unhinged it got.
She didn't had a cleft palate, the episode centered around the Kuchisake-onna, or the woman with the slit mouth. Long story short, parents thought that the slit mouth would look too much like a cleft palate and prevented the episode to be aired.
The Kuchisake-onna actually shows up in the credits sequence and the obscure sequel series, GakkÅ no Kaidan SP.
This unaired episode actually got me into the anime and while I actually never bothered to finish it, I STILL want this episode to be leaked somehow. It has been like 6 years since I discovered this...

From what I understand, they did not get to see it, but I have heard conflicting reports.
My guess is that they didn't see it, the only episodes that would have been sent over would be the ones where they had plans to dub it.
Still wild to me that this episode didn't make it to air, it seems pretty tame (even for the original version) in terms of spookiness. I know there was some organization who pushed for it to be taken down or something like that but still, I am surprised it did not get aired at least overseas. Apparently the show (without the dub) was popular in SE Asia outside of japan.

it wasn't so much being scary as Japan worrying that this episode would encourage bullying people with deformities, which is a major issue in Japan(the character Abe from the Oddworld games most notably had his design changed in Japan to make his fingers look less deformed)

That clears it up a little more, still it is odd that it did not air more outside Japan, like in Thailand and Vietnam, as they have different cultural values. That being said, if they did not get a dub, there is no way the Americans got one.

not that odd when you consider several episodes of Pokemon never aired outside of Japan, aside from the Porygon episode, Shaking Island Battle and the two-part Team Rocket vs Plasma episodes were not aired in Japan because of earthquakes and never aired outside of Japan either(apparently the two-parter was originally going to be aired at a later date, but when Black and White 2 came out and had a different story for Team Rocket vs Plasma the two-part episode no longer fit into the continuity of the show so they had to make a three-part episode featuring Team Plasma to make up for it)
