there was a documentary on youtube, posted years ago. it was a VHS capture of a BBC Arena documentary on early animation circa 1985.
a year ago or so however, I found that it seemed to disappear. I was able to track down the old link though and found that apparently the documentary had been blocked because of a copyright claim by Disney. which totally puzzles me because I don't believe it even featured much of Disney at all from my memory.
anyways, I'm kicking myself for never saving the documentary because it was one of my favorites on animation. if anyone has any advice on how to recover it or if you have access to it yourself that would be great. here's the original link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeiUhfLv8uI
also! a little off-topic, but does anyone else remember this very long animation documentary that played on a cable or satellite station in 2009? I can't remember what channel it was anymore, unfortunately. but I think it was a pretty obscure one. perhaps it was an art channel? I honestly cannot remember for the life of me. but I remember that it was supposed to be a big event on the channel, like it was advertised as one. I remember sitting down and watching the documentary for hours. I remember them talking about the difference between the animation studios and how apparently MGM animation was more surreal, they also talked about 'Bimbo's Initiation' for a fairly long segment.
I really wish I could remember more, but unfortunately I can't. but if that sounds familiar to you also, please let me know!
okay, so like an idiot I didn't realize that the guy who posted it has a facebook and everything that I can contact him through, so hopefully that pans out. still, if anyone has information on that other documentary I mentioned that would be awesome!
