Voice of McDonald's (VoM) is "the largest global singing competition of its kind. Open to McDonald’s crew members and managers in 118 countries, the contest allows crew members to showcase their singing talents and compete for a $25,000 prize. This past year, more than 3,600 talented employees from 53 countries around the world entered the contest." From what I can find, it started in 2006 and continued until 2020 - possibly stopping temporarily because of the pandemic or permanently since many of the websites for VoM don't work anymore.
With probably the largest fast food chain being behind this competition, you'd think it'd be well known about yet there's no mention of it on McDonald's wikipedia page or even the McDonald's wiki website. It doesn't seem like it's always been this obscure though as The New York Times has written about it, Ne-Yo was a voice coach and judge, Chris Daughtry and Wayne Brady were celebrity hosts, and grand prize winners could win $25,000 or, in one case, win '$25,000, two VIP tickets to the Lady Gaga “Monster Ball Tour” concert in Los Angeles, and a new MacBook computer.'
The competition is in a grey area for lost media, at least in my opinion. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that VoM was meant to be shown on television, but rather it seems to exist mainly for employees of the fast food chain. McDonald's did however tweet about livestreams and voting, so there was interaction with people in an American Idol-esque way, but those livestreams don't seem to be accessible anymore and footage of the competition seems scarce. The most comprehensive footage of VoM I've found so far is this YouTube playlist of VoM 2012-13 (North & East). Besides this, there are many other videos relating to VoM - some of which I'll link below - but not many can compare to that playlist.
I believe there's even more footage somewhere, but I've hit a dead end in finding anymore. I guess it's possible there isn't more, but it's hard to imagine that McDonald's doesn't have more footage of VoM.
Hopefully with more eyes on this, more can be found.
