Hello, I'm @satamhistorian on Twitter, and I've been in contact with a number of people who directly worked at Sega in the 90s, most notably Michealene Risley, as I'm writing a book going over the complete history of the SatAM series. While interviewing her, the topic of Sonic Wonders of the World was brought up. She told me it wasn't based on the SatAM series because "Saturday morning, skewed very young…and in order to do a film at that budget and magnitude, you need to create for a wider audience. Similar to what happens with comic books as well. When we took a comic to the big screen you had to make sure that you could expand the audience. Also, in the merchandise world, you want to inspire from an older demographic…. "
She would later get in contact with Pen Densham, co-founder of Trilogy Entertainment, to get more information on the cancelled flick. He responded with "We never went to script. We may have worked out a presentation - but it is not in my Trilogy files if we did. I pulled us out of the project when I realized that Sega wanted to hold onto the original developers origin story which I could not see working in a film structure. And they did not want to insult the game developer by letting us work out a more feature friendly approach. So we refunded our development fees."
A full story treatment was made however. Michealene recently sent me Richard Jeffries full story treatment of the script which can be found here: drive.google.com/file/d/1wikIEoXyGw3oKsA8eStaoiV9YZkO1F2s/view
So I think the article should be updated and either be considered "found" because the full story treatment has been found or "non-existent" since no script was ever made.
Note: Just realized the outline is partially incomplete. These two pages are missing from the document shared with me. I'll ask Michealene Risley if she happens to have the 6th and 7th pages of the outline not included in the doc shared with me.
