Grand Theft Auto seems to be a magnet for these sorts of rumors and urban legends and was probably the last major video game franchise to attract those schoolyard rumors.
San Andreas in particular had stuff like Bigfoot, UFO's, Leatherface, and so much more. Part of that is due to SA being the first major GTA game with lots of rural areas, more Easter eggs than before, and weird programming glitches that led to things like ghost cars, pedestrians drowning themselves in a lake and weird ghost graffiti.
Even before San Andreas, there were a ton of rumors about Vice City and GTA III, some of which were true (the shark near Prawn Island, Romero Funeral Home) and some which were bullshit (ninja gangs, a secret "nuke the city" ending)
I thought the Sega Genesis in general was a magnet considering the amount of games being developed for the system at the time & just how revolutionary it was around the world compared to the NES, which while much more popular in the US & Japan than said Genesis, had actual official popularity in other regions that was otherwise filled with famiclones.

That whole era after the NES but before the PS3/360/Wii was like a golden age of video game rumors and urban legends. Some games and series were more likely to get hit with them than others, it was crazy.
Sheng Long in Street Fighter II and Akuma being playable in Resident Evil 2, and that's just barely scratching the surface.

Yeah, those were quite the rumors back in the day. Thing is, those were the popular ones & while it takes quite a bit to really explain, they CAN be proven as false. With what I was talking about, these were seemingly really obscure rumors that more or less fell into deep obscurity & are now only known through Undumped Wiki's list of undumped console games. Like seriously, the amount of strange, rumor sounding game names on that list is just insane. Here are some particularly offputting examples:
Puzzle X (Game Gear): What the heck does that title mean? Does it mean that it's a game about 10 hard-to-solve puzzles? Is it about puzzles involving the letter X? Is it just some generic puzzle game with the "X" at the end of the title to make it sound cool? Who really even knows. IF (Sega Genesis): With a title THAT tiny & strange, how the heck are you even supposed to look this up!? I know Bobdunga did a neat strategy when looking up information surrounding Toon Makers & that Sailor Moon American animated/live-action pilot, but I have no idea if it'll work with this game considering how hard of a title it would be to look up. NFL Team Heroes (SNES): Now we know this was going to be based on the National Football League, but the title gives off the vibe of it being based on a 90s cartoon, except there wasn't any cartoon from the 90s called that. So, would it have been a fantasized football game or a platformer? According to GameFAQs, this was also in development for the Sega Genesis, but I'm not sure on that either. Winning Run (Sega Genesis): Presumably a racing game of some kind? Scatters (Sega Genesis): Apparently someone sold a prototype box of this game, & it was said to going to be published by Electronic Arts, but sadly there is nothing I can see that confirms this. Channel X (Sega CD): Was this sort of like a first-person shooter game with a tone similar to that of the 1996 PC game Stay Tooned? Birdcage Yard (Super A'Can): Maybe this could be researched in Traditional Chinese, the language that Taiwan uses mostly. R3K (Atari Lynx): Now what could that title possibly stand for, if it even stands for anything or if it even makes any sort of sense!? Voyager Star 2 (Sega 32X): Was there ever a Voyager Star 1? And no, I doubt the classic Atari 2600 game Star Voyager counts as the 1st installment. That'd be too perfect. Greed (Sega Genesis): Now THIS one is truly up for some wild speculation: Either this was some generic platforming game with a simple name or this was some really deep & strange video game based on an equally deep & strange movie from the 1920s. The Police (Memorex VIS): A system with not much information on is bound to have some of these rumored games. This one could have been some kind of mystery solving game of some kind with some graphic violence for the murder mysteries. Lucky Stars (Atari Lynx): With a name that's been used A LOT(almost), it means that it's most definitely gonna be crazy hard to look up. Kevin Kidd (Sega Genesis): Not sure if this was going to be an Alex Kidd spinoff; likely wasn't & this was something from a completely different company entirely if it were actually a real thing. Crazy Bikes (Master System): So Sega's version of Codemaster's Stunt Kids for the NES? Drame Land (Atari Lynx): Somebody misspelled "drone" there, or is this a word that is so obscure not even Google knows.
Dreams are boundless, imaginations are infinite, space is a multi-directional spiral & Akazukin ChaCha is my favorite anime
There was this video game magazine (not an official Nintendo magazine) made a rumor that Kid Icarus was gonna release on the SNES during the console’s release. The magazine leak was a fake. They either got their “leaks” from other magazines (this one specifically came from an Italian magazine) or just made them up. When lost media people found it, they almost thought there was a Kid Icarus SNES game until it turned out to be fake
I used to play The Sims on my neighbor's PC when I was a kid. They told me about a character that would appear on rare occasions named "Anonymous." Allegedly, this character would kill your Sims, and there was nothing you could do except just turn off the computer to quickly quit out of the game. They also said I wasn't allowed to make characters without any social skill points (I forget exactly what it's called) because the character would do really inappropriate things in the game, and my neighbor's family was super religious.
A day with clock master morning cartoon for a punch.

I remember hearing rumors of a sequel to Space Jam called Spy Jam starring Jackie Chan. I’m assuming this eventually became Looney Tunes Back in Action. I also remember hearing about a live action Johnny Bravo movie starting Dwayne Johnson like 15 years ago.
Unlike the first game Psychonauts 2 does not let you kill the animals (how sad lol) but someone said that it does in fact let you kill the rats. News flash, you can't kill the rats.

I know. They don't contribute anything, just let me burn it

Namco has a racing game named Winning Run, which is a Virtua Racing/Crammon's Grand Prix-style first person racing game. I don't know how it would perform on Genesis though.

Well I mean, it's probably not even related to that Namco game for all we know.

When I think of rumors like this, I think about the frozen lake and stone bridge in Animal Jam. Alot of Animal Jam players (me included) liked to jump on the frozen lake in Mt. Shiveer or the stone bridge in Coral Canyons to try and make them break, because when enough people jumped on them, they started to crack. I don't think either of them ever broke but I have fun memories of gathering a bunch of people to attempt breaking them together! (I'd say it's similar to Club Penguin's iceberg? tho I'm pretty sure that actually tipped over, right?)

If im recalling correctly here i uhh remember….hearing about this little uh fan theory for the shopkins webseries. Basically, after a special minisode was made to promote the lost shopkins pack, and i guess a theory spawned that a whole miniseries would go into further depth about what exactly happened in that minisode, including the shopkins confronting the hypnotized erasing-obsessed shopkins, and later on, some character named erasurica? This would end up not happening however, basically making it false, or at least thats what i heard from a first hand account
While we are on the topic of rumors, could anyone actually access the Pikachu surfing minigame outside of Fuchsia City in Pokemon Yellow? Because I swear, I was only able to get to it with a Gameshark.
