I was thinking recently back to when Pokemon was a big phenomenon in late 90s-early 00s and the amount of false rumours surrounding those games such as Mew being found under the truck on land beside the SS Anne in RBG and "Pikablu" if anyone remembers that:
This made me think of the other rumours in Pokemon I was told, which at the time the web wasn't as big it it became and it was harder to debunk some of these rumours by online searching like you can now easily. The first was about Ho-Oh back when we didn't know its name and only saw it in the first episode of the anime. A rumour going around schools where I lived was that you could get Ho-Oh in the Red/Green/Yellow games by first capturing the 3 legendary birds, Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno. You would then get a "rainbow stone" (doesn't exist) and use it on all 3 pokemon at once (impossible to do) then they would all merge into the "Rainbow pokemon". There was also a rumour in the card game of a Rainbow energy that worked the same as colorless but again, that never existed.
Another rumour I heard going around was after Ruby and Sapphire games came out. Apparently when you get on the boat that sails from Dewford and Slateport in those games, and looked out the window and saw the ship "sailing" across the water with the scenery moving, you had the chance of seeing a pink boat at certian times, that could be reached by swimming but was in an area with fast flowing water that is hard to reach.
Also with Ruby and Sapphire, before FireRed and LeafGreen came out, I remember a rumour that you could get to Kanto in Ruby and Sapphire via either a special event or completing the National Dex and getting a Kanto Starter pokemon (or completing the national dex and getting 999 launches of the space ship in Mossdeep City where you could catch the next one and catch Jirachi on the moon) but of course none of that was true.
Anyone know any weird/strange rumours about any media that turned out to be nothing more than rumours like these?
