Title says it all. I have a ton of DVR recordings, some of live events, and while I'm trying to back them up on DVD it could take a lifetime. But I think, or rather I have been told, I may be able to connect a flash drive or HDD or "PVR" (never heard that before) to the tv and just record what it's playing. If I can, would that allow me to record DVR recordings as they play? Because if so, I could record literally hours and hours of live tv and various shows, bumpers, commercials, etc and preserve them probably forever.
You could use a capture device, such as the ones used for streaming and recording footage of video games, to record the video feed output from your DVR and save it to an external hard drive. Depending on your DVR, the video output may have some form of copy protection, in which case you would have to use a method to bypass it.

Ok, to clarify though, I've been playing them on my TV and using a DVD recorder to record what the TV is show, bypassing the DVR entirely. So encryption isn't the issue because I just think or rather I've been advised that I can just hook up a recording device to the TV itself (not the DVR itself) and record it.
It's complicated to explain, but I think it may work, and I thought someone may have tried this and could confirm it.
