This is a direct post I made on TMOT, and now I'm curious if anyone at all remembers this. Two things to be clear, I saw the video on a TV show, not the title but the cover and I recall the cover clearly. This is NOT a false memory. Also this movie was, without question, released on VHS during the era of video stories, so sometime in the 90s. It may have been made earlier, but given what I recall "earlier" here would have to be A--after Aliens, since it was inspired by that and B--late 80s, again based on what I recall...
"Ok so, I was watching The List today (1/7/22) and they showed a guy who collected hundreds and hundreds of old VHS tapes, and one movie he had reminded me instantly of a movie I saw as a kid from Blockbuster. I can't recall the title, but the cover immediately looked familiar, and honestly if I could just remember the title the entire plot would Thanos Snap back into my mind. Because that's how I remember things.
Anyway, I can give a very detailed description, if you can't find the actual episode or see the collection he had: it was a straight-to-video movie and never released in theaters, as far as I know; the cover of the VHS box was either a light blue or purple-ish blue but was obviously supposed to depict some kind of alien sky or landscape and may have had a landscape in the back. The most obvious aspect was a group of humans, at least one I'm sure was a woman with maybe long brown hair wearing a red shirt, and several dudes, and they were dressed in this kind of "working man in space" look similar to Firefly or Aliens. However, in the background, was the image of a humanoid figure with pale white skin and I believe yellow eyes, or at least inhuman looking eyes. He was bald, and making a grimacing face, almost like something you'd see on a Nightmare on Elm St. cover but instead of looking burned up like Freddy he looked decidedly alien and possibly, if memory serves, had pockmarks on his face.
I can almost recall the plot, being something almost like Mutant Chronicles, and it even had a similar cover. But again, I know Mutant Chronicles inside and out and this movie was definitely either from the 90s (most likely) or the late 80s.
Minor edit: it is possible it was a TV movie with a VHS release, like the movies from the UPN show Blockbuster Shockwave Cinema. But the possibility of an 80s/90s movie on VHS available from Blockbuster is concrete in my memory. I literally KNOW, without question, that this movie exists, I saw the cover on television on that episode, so it's not even remotely a false memory. The only issue is I can't recall what precisely the title was, just the cover!
Thanks in advance for any help guys!"
