My story.
- Between 2010 and 2012, a company in my country was dedicated to giving laptops which are called in my country "xo", these laptops came with some games, these were no longer included in new generations of these laptops that they shipped years later (as well as other lost XO games came by default in the first generation of Sugar). These games that came, I played them in my childhood, but I did not remember the name of one of them in particular, which was the one I spent the most time on.
I started looking at forums for people who uploaded games for these devices and finally I found the whereabouts of this game, called TumbleBoy.
I started searching Google and other forums to see the whereabouts of this game, I found several links to download it, but I was surprised that absolutely all the links uploaded by these people were down, it was impossible to download this game.
I looked in many more forums, there were people who commented in 2013 that they were looking for this game, but the official page where the game was uploaded for Windows and in .xo format, was unfortunately down.
I decided to do a search in the WayBack Machine for these links, none were saved, except for one in particular.
olpcgames.org, the game was located here, the problem is that I did not have the direct link to download it, so I started searching on various dates where the game was located.
I managed to find several games at the beginning of the forum and with their respective download links, but I realized that most of them were down, including TumbleBoy.
At this point I thought the game was totally lost, but I still didn't give up.
I started looking at other dates and found the following link.
web.archive.org/web/20080408053105/http://www.olpcgames.org/?page_id=6
In this link, there were several games, among them, TumbleBoy, I managed to download the game, as well as others that were available.
Unfortunately, this and other games that had the option to download in .exe format, were not available for download.
I went through the game files and came up with the idea of changing the format of the .x file to .zip, extract it and see how the game was made inside.
I was surprised that the game was built in a version of Python and was running pygame, so to run it, I decided to install Python and pygame.
When doing so, the game would not launch, it would open a window but at the moment, it would close, it was like something was wrong, the game just didn't want to work.
I decided to get my hands on the game code, and found one of the game's developers, coderanger, among the game code.
Searching on the internet, I found his website, including his email, I decided to talk to him about this game to see if he remembered anything, a help on how to run it.
Within a few minutes, I received an answer from him.
After doing what he told me and having a chat about the game, I managed to run it.
