I'm not if this thread is going to get any traction- But here goes.
I went back and watched Robots for the first time in like, 3 years. It's a great film, and I recommend that anyone who hasn't seen it, or hasn't see it in years- To check it out. Because its aged like a fine wine. But, yeah... where I'm really getting with this- Is that after doing some research of Robots online for a little bit, I came across this strange # on Twitter. "#ReleaseTheChrisWedgeCut". Now I had no clue what the Hell that meant, but I wanted to get context.
After doing some serious digging (More like scrolling through Twitter for 10 minutes) I found out that during an audio commentary of the film on the North-American release of the Robots DVD, Chris Wedge claimed that a Directors cut of the movie was in the works- As most of the film was either heavily altered, or removed entirely. Like a scene where Bigweld gets lobotomized by a Mad Doctor that Mama Ratchet had hired, Much more scenes with Cappy, And a more lengthy chase scene with Rodney and Fender. According to a huge fan of Robots that I reached out to- There was over 30 minuets of fully animated footage of the film was cut. And the Director Chris Wedge planned on releasing this as "Robots: Special Edition".
But that's where all the information I have runs dry... Other an a few sketchy claims on forums, and a handful of leaked screenshots- This b*tch is a full on case of Lost Media. I want to learn more about this cut of the Film, as Robots was one of my favorite films, and is such an Underrated Flick. But there's barley any info online, and Chris Wedge himself seems to not have an internet presence at all. If this sounds enticing to any of you Lost Media Hunters, please let me know. I want to get this solved. Or at least get to the bottom of why it was never released.
