In the early 2010s, I was browsing the kids section of a library and came across a very strange book series. I think there were 2 or 3 in the series with one of them having a yellow cover and other other a green one (and maybe the third was orange/red).
The first book was a series of short stories which were really awful, maybe cringy is the best way to describe them. This was intentional because the title of the series was making fun of how bad it was. I remember the sequel being a really bad manga parody but written by a boomer who knows nothing about manga. The books had illustrations every few pages with the manga one having short poorly drawn comics instead.
The books were fairly short and the reading level was on the same level as Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
oh my god is it the just series by andy griffiths...that's the only thing that reminded me of your description and every single one of those books are Incredibly over the top and...indescribable beyond that (love them nonetheless)
If it was the Just series, I am interested in which book included a manga parody. I remember the series having at least one comic story, but it wasn't manga-like.

The formatting is probably similar with it being super dumb. However, there are small details about the books that don't line up with the Just series.
I went to the library that I remember checking out the books. I guess they were removed from the shelf, which is common for books that don't get checked out often. I also doubled check it they had Just series, they did not.
- The covers have very minimal illustrations - The title was very bizzare that I was curious enough to read it. - The writing was really bad and chaotic. In the first book it was funny but in the manga one, it was sort of difficult to read. - The majority of the manga one was a novel but at points, it would switch over to a comic form then back to a novel. - The books were very short and small. If Diary of a Wimpy Kid is about the standard size for books, these books were a little narrower.
