In early 1996 Nintendo Of America considered bringing Fire Emblem to America. They would do so with a huge marketing push similar to the one they used to introduce Pokemon to American Kids. This would included dubbing the Fire Emblem OVA as well as getting several western companies on board to manufacture merchandise such as toys, shirts, etc. The first game they planned to bring over was Firer Emblem Mystery Of The Emblem for the SNES feeling this was a good introduction to the series. Unfortunately after the abysmal sales of Earthbound as well as the upcoming release of the N64 Nintendo Of America had second thoughts and decided to cancel all plans on bringing it over to America until six years later when it would hit the GBA. The OVA strangely still got released in the U.S in 1997.
