From the late eighties through 2002 my Mom was part of a group that would test various products and then would have to write a review of what she thought of them. They'd be mailed her and she wasn't allowed to show or discuss them with anyone since they were essentially prototypes. They ranged between home products like knives to food to even the occasional toy. One such toy I remember testing was Color Changing LEGO. This was probably around 1994. They were just like regular LEGO but had a chalkier constancy and would change color if you got them wet and would turn back to their original color when they'd dry off. They would get really slimily due to the material they were made of. They also didn't work that good which is why they probably never saw release. One other toy I can remember is a spinoff of the Micro Machine brand called Micro Men. It was very similar to Mighty Max or Polly Pocket. They were the same size and and were vehicles that open up revealing a small play set inside. I had a school Bus that would unfold into a school play set I believe there was also a firetruck as well which would have opened up into a firehouse play set. In terms of food I remember a Neapolitan Pop Tart. The pop tart was chocolate, the frosting was strawberry and the filling was vanilla. It was good and I wish it had been released. Nobody knew these products existed unless you worked the companies that worked there or you were part of the testing group. Hope you find this interesting. I know they're not tv shows or video games but they're still lost with no images or information anywhere online.

I did a few of these too! The one I remember was a packet of strawberry topping? I want to say it was Jell-O brand, but this was about 25 years ago. You add hot water to the mix, and it becomes a consistency that now reminds me of strawberry topping for waffles or cheesecake. I loved it on ice cream, but that product never went to market. Interestingly, one I tried that *did* get released was Sprinkle Spangles cereal. I think I remember liking it, though we almost never had sugary cereal at home anyway-- so I would have liked it probably no matter what. Brief research shows me it most likely came out in 1993, and lasted about 5 years.
