When I was very young (sometime in the late 1990s or very early 2000s) I caught a glimpse of a film or TV show on television that startled me, and I have always wondered what exactly it was.
In it, there was this guy (probably the main protagonist) walking through the woods at night, apparently looking for shelter. It might have been raining. He stumbles upon this old, long-abandoned car (still with its window glass intact), so he gets in to stay there for the night.
With a lantern (or possibly flashlight) lit, he sits in either the front or rear passenger's seat for a while, until he happens to look over and sees that there is a human skeleton sitting in the driver's seat. I clearly remember the steering wheel being visible in this shot.
Based on the position of the bones and non-smashed state of the car, it looked like the person had died of either natural causes, or starvation (not a collision).
Though the skeleton initially startles the guy, it doesnt stop him from sleeping in the car that night. At some point (either before or after finding the bones), the traveller rests in the car, while eating something (possibly nuts) out of a bag. He casually talks to himself (or maybe the skeleton) as he eats.
At some point, the film cuts to the next day, where it shows that the guy has just finished respectfully burying the skeleton under a pile of rocks (in sight of the car, which is visible through the trees). He may have put up a cross made of tree limbs at the head of the grave, but I am not positive about that part.
After placing the last couple stones on the pile, the traveller continues on his way.
And that is all I saw/remember. I got the impression that the skeleton scene was only a very minor part of the story, like something that the main character just "experienced along the way".
It could have been a TV show, but I always assumed that it was a film. It was live-action, in color, and looked like it was a relatively recent production (1990s or 1980s at the earliest). However, I assume that the actual setting was earlier, like somewhere from the 1920s to maybe 1940s, but I could be way off on that.
If anyone can finally help me solve this mystery, I would be very appreciative! It has been bothering me for years!
