It was a game that you downloaded on your computer with a pretty standard early-mid 2000s 2D-artstyle. It was aimed at kids of I would say around 13 yrs of age. You chose a server to login with and you had a character and username. All the players would be on a dance floor and there would be a video playing of whatever song was playing. The special thing about the game was that you could use YouTube songs. You would paste in a link that would go into a queue and the ddr game on the left would go with the song. It would display on a wall in front of the dancefloor area like a theatre or big tv. I loved it but can't seem to find it anywhere when googling rhythm games. All I can get is modern rhythm games like Osu and Friday Night Funkin. I remember playing it 2 years ago so I am hopeful that there are still players. it was pretty full at times and it was hard to see the dance floor with all the players. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Your description seems to match with Atelier801's game Nekodancer very well, except that one was mainly a flash game, with the downloadable client being a secondary option. Here's a screenshot of the game.
