Media that terrified you when you were younger

I used to be afraid of the robots at chuck e cheese and those singing holiday decorations, but now I like them.
I also was afraid of this one Mcdonalds toy of Waffle from Catscratch, where you pushed his arm down and it made fart sounds. I was also afraid of a burger king toy of Krusty from the simpsons, and a mcdonalds toy of Julien from Madagascar

Lots and lots of stuff creeped me out when I was little. Certain logos (I know I know, it’s strange) such as PBS and all those other “scary” ones. To be honest I’m still a bit unnerved by those old logos. PBS Kids freaked me out too, with the weird music and animation and what not. However, the bumper with the bugs crawling around that would come on before Cyberchase, I literally hid behind the couch in fear of that.
Lofty from Bob the Builder scared the hell out of me too for god knows what reason. I had the toy and then I couldn’t even look at it.
Oh, and Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages. GPK, not so much anymore, but Wacky Packs still freak me out. I just don’t like them!

Aside from the actual horror movies that my family members were fans of, I have some stand-out examples.

I saw Rene Laloux's Les Escargot from one of those "200 Classic Cartoon" compilation disc things. It also had the iconic Gumbasia by Art Clokey (The Gumby guy). Both of these shorts immensely disturbed and intrigued me as a kid. Imagine seeing weird abstract art house animation as like a 7 or 8-year-old. I would go to sleep with the disc on (one of the few cartoon things my dad had so it's all I watched at his house) and I would always wake up to the most random old cartoons. Eventually, at like 2 A.M. I woke up to "the freaky cartoon about snails" and was thoroughly creeped out. I woke up the next day and I couldn't even find the short on the disc's list of cartoons so I was convinced I had dreamed it up until I saw it again a few weeks later while watching the discs. I also forgot about it for several years until a friend introduced me to Tool when I was in high-school and I saw somebody had used it for a fan made video for the song "The Pot" (Now gone sadly).


Another one involves everyone's favorite virus-spreading torrent tracker, Limewire (actually Frostwire but that's a technicality). I used to download songs off of there to put on my iPod, completely unaware at the time that it was a common phenomenon for files to not be what they said they were. One day while trying to listen to "Breaking The Habit" by Linking Park (On full volume by the way) I was greeted with a loud and monotone voice saying something along the lines of "TO REMOVE THESE ADDS GO TO WWW . LIMEWIRE *heavy breath* FROSTWIRE LAWSUIT . COM" and then it just repeats multiple times over. This may even count as lost media because I cannot find this audio clip anywhere. My family even used to mock me for it too, by saying "TO REMOVE THESE ADDS" mimicking me mimicking the voice. I look back on it and laugh but I legitimately thought it was terrifying as a kid. I was also 11 or 12 when this happened so I probably should not have been scared by it.


Lastly, there used to be this text at the front of some paper-back books that read "Sale of this book without a front cover may be unauthorized. If this book is coverless, it may have been reported to the publisher as "unsold or destroyed" and neither the author nor the publisher may have received payment for this stripped book" as a little kid I had no clue what this meant and just saw "Sale of this book..may be unauthorized" and "neither the author nor the publisher may have received payment" and thought "stripped book" meant "stolen book" and that I would be in big legal trouble if I had a stripped book. The worst part, I once read this in a book that had no cover. I remember I tore out the page with the warning and threw it away (I even put it inside another piece of trash so nobody could see it in the trash can)
I was a terrified and jumpy kid. But at least I can look back on this and laugh.

When I was a kid, I was scared of the episode of Recess where they put TJ in The Box.

Yeah, wow, Cyriak takes me back. Their videos were terrifying. Also, I too was afraid of Chucky (once again, way later into my life than I should have been, lol). Also, I can defensively see how a TTS voice would creep out a kid. Very relatable.

since we are talking about scary logos now, the logo for O Entertainment always freaked me out, too. And worse, it played right before the DNA Productions logo (The "Hi, I'm Paul!" one)

Most logos kinda unnerved me actually, and I don't know why. I was always just kinda freaked out when I saw them after the credits.

In Thomas The Tank Engine, there's a story called "Thomas Comes To Breakfast" where a cleaner accidentally fiddles with Thomas's controls while preparing Thomas for work in the morning, inadvertently releasing Thomas's brakes, causing Thomas to go crash into the stationmaster's house. The site of Thomas's face crashed through the window scares me. And still does. Especially in the tv adaptation where he ends up with a bush in front of his face.

As for why there were no buffers in between the track and the stationmaster's house, I have no idea.
