Children of the Corn is a 1984 horror movie based on the 1977 short story of the same name by Stephen King, centering on a couple named Burt and Vicky who find themselves stranded in an isolated cornfield town in Nebraska with a cult of children and teenagers who are instructed to kill all the adults under the order of a mysterious entity only known as He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Since it's release, the film has become a cult classic among horror fans and a series with eleven films (including a remake and a prequel) for better or worse. Apart from Burt and Vicky, one of the other prominent adult figures figures is the mostly unknown Officer Hodgekiss, who is dubbed the Blue Man by Job, one of the main child characters. But, who was he and why was this important character reduced to almost a footnote?
In 2011, a COTC fan blog [ChildrenoftheCornMovie] published a post discussing the famed Blue Man and that it appears that there was more at work that ultimately never made it into the final cut of the film, assuming it was filmed rather than photos being taken for promotional purposes - with one photo showing what may have become of him and his fellow coworkers at the Gatlin Police Station. The following year in 2012, COTCM interviewed Rich Kleinberg who played Officer Hodgekiss to discuss his experience working on the set and what became of his character. According to Rich, he was contacted by the director, Fritz Kiersch to say that his scene was unfortunately being cut due to runtime issues. To this day, no footage of the scene exists or has surfaced anywhere and COTCM has petitioned that horror fans show Fritz, Anchor Bay, and others that this is sought after by film collectors and horror fans alike.
