I would say yes, absolutely. Just to put it into perspective there is a live recording of 9/11 complete with the show that was on just before, and it's so FASCINATING to basically watch the world change forever in real-time. You HAVE to maintain and preserve things like this, not just because an angry OCD Black guy like me says so but history says so!

Yes, that's precisely what I mean. The only reason THAT video exists is because someone was recording a different show then 9/11 happened. So yes, absolutely. It's almost necessary.
