Sorry if this post is a little off. I'm not very active on here so I'm still unfamiliar with how everything works.
Hi I am an archivist mainly focusing on the preservation of the late 90s Japanese series "Cyborg Kuro-chan" I have shared a lot of my finds on a Twitter account twitter.com/CyKuroArchive
I'm focusing mostly on the archiving of the anime and there are a few things I have been searching for, but have yet to find after my 5 years of archiving
The first thing is any original commercials aired during the anime's run, specifically the one made to promote the anime before it aired. Most anime have content like this made to air before the show begins. Since the anime begun airing in October 99, it's safe to assume the promo aired in September, most likely during morning children's programming. I've checked a few Japanese commercial compilations from that time on both YouTube and Nico Nico and have yet to find it. I have a feeling it may surface someday as there's lots of Japanese users posting old commercials they've recorded.
This 2nd one is a little more obscure. As you may know, anime episode 66 was lost for a while but was found when it aired on TV in 2016. It's also known that 66 was not going to be the final episode, but ended up being the final show due to company bankruptcies. The 2016 airing includes a goodbye message before the credits, and the episode itself cuts abruptly, cutting off the narrator's usual ending message of "まて次回 (matte jikai)" which roughly means "wait until next time". This edit is present on the original airing on TV Tokyo, with the dialogue cutting off at the same time, but with a fade to black transition and no goodbye message. According to the Japanese Wikipedia page for the anime, an unedited version aired in other parts of Japan, one station is rumoured to be Okinawa TV. The unedited version apparently had the original dialogue intact and a promo for episode 67 (which went unaired) was left in. Only model sheets and the title "謎の雪男現わる!" are all we have to go off for the episode. While the next time promo is unconfirmed and may just be a hoax, if anyone has it or has seen it, it would be great to find out more.
One last thing is the promotional art featured in Kodansha TV Magazine. From October 99 until March 01, exclusive art was featured in the magazine to promote upcoming episodes. Only the artwork for the 3 01 issues has been scanned and shared online. copies of the magazine are apparently at the National Diet Library in Chiyoda City, Tokyo according to a friend in Japan.
So yeah... I doubt many will see this because the series is still pretty obscure and I doubt that a big hunt for old stuff like this will begin, but if anyone can help find these things, I would really appreciate it.
