This is a really, really weird one for me. It'll probably come across as some creepypasta paranoid fuel BS, but I remember the main portion vividly, and it didn't happen as long ago as a lot of these stories are. I'd say I was around 13-15 when this happened (currently 21 going on 22). But I'm still gonna present it like one, because it was weird as hell and I have no proof of its existence.
I was on vacation with my dad to somewhere. I don't specifically remember since (pre-COVID) we used to go to a bunch of places all the time. I had woken up around 7-9 AM, and my dad was in the shower while I was still in bed staring at the TV. I have no clue what channel it was tuned to, and since it's been 5+ years during an already fuzzy memory of a vacation somewhere, I don't think that's terribly surprising.
Suddenly, a bumper came on. On a black screen, text appeared saying something like "Pay attention to this angel", alongside some pseudo-urban legend text about how this angel statue would cry under some condition. It would show live action footage of said angel statue, and like a bunch of classic internet screamer videos, it cut again and said "did you see it?". As expected, there's a jumpscare. However, the reason it's stuck in my mind is because the jumpscare face itself was... surprisingly genuinely freaky, even though the TV was muted the entire time. And better yet, it wasn't egregiously grotesque. If I had to put it into words, it was a weird paper-mache looking collage of parts made to look sort of zombie-esque? It was hand drawn.
I am not even remotely an artist and this isn't really even close to how it looked, but I drew it to emphasize how it looked: square bits that looked like paper cutouts (at least, from the distance I was sitting).
Afterwards, it would fade to another screen and say "Gotcha!", and then faded into the production company/channel logo, which my brain tells me was Teletoon, but don't count on that.
There's several issues about this story that make it incredibly hard for me to track down:
- There are those stop-motion Teletoon halloween bumpers that, while they do have jumpscare endings, are NOT even remotely like this. This was more like a weird TV station's take on a Youtube screamer.
- There are those stop-motion Teletoon halloween bumpers that, while they do have jumpscare endings, are NOT even remotely like this. This was more like a weird TV station's take on a Youtube screamer.
- Nothing to do with Weeping Angels. I tried to bring this up on the LMW Discord and 90% of everyone insisted it was related to them, but this is very much not the case (unless it is, but I had a short brief interest in Doctor Who a few years prior so I would've known at the time).
- Teletoon isn't even a channel in the US, so I don't know how they would've ran a bumper unless it was part of another channel's broadcast schedule.
This is something that's popped into my brain every now and then and I still wonder what happened. If it was just a dream, I would know since I'm usually able to discern such things after waking up (plus I remember a lot of dreams from my childhood). Would anyone even have a clue as to where to start looking for this? Does it matter? I dunno.
