Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Phantom Blood OVA Lost Movie

So far, we have concept art, still frames, the trailer, the teaser trailer, and the first 16 minutes of the film without audio, along with the 2 minutes of test footage. There really hasn't been any new leads in a while, I don't think anyone has actually asked either Araki or APPP about it. There is hope for a rerelease next year as it is the films 15th anniversary and Jojo's 40th.

This topic has had a dedicated search effort since the late 2000s but really blew up in popularity in 2019, however it's since hit a very big dead end and as far as I know hasn't even been touched for a couple years.

The JoJo Discord server that conducted the search dug up everything they possibly could, I was very impressed with just how deep they went. Despite all that effort though we never ended up with the full movie and we're out of options on where to look.

The consensus seems to be just waiting for it to be rereleased by Shueisha since they probably have it in their vaults and there's no other way to get our hands on it. Everyone you can think to contact has already been contacted and the search team kinda disintegrated from the lack of progress.

The only bit of hope that remains is the idea that bootleg copies circulated anime conventions in Japan back in the day- a claim constantly thrown around but never verified. Apparently there exist secret communities in Japan who trade this kind of thing between themselves and if that's true then a fan could have a copy but we'd never be able to go that far due to the language barrier and everything else.

I wish I could say more but I was very disappointed this one kinda ended the way it did, we simply have nothing else to work with. Not to mention if this was hard to find back in 2011 when the movie was much more recent, a decade later makes it nearly impossible.

Man, I hope this becomes the next big lost media search.

Yeah the thing about the movie is people have been hoping for a rerelease for years but every time there's an anniversary or some reason for the movie to be released again, it never happens.

I really don't think it'll ever make an official comeback because my understanding of the situation is all of Studio APPP's work was buried when David Production started making their own content. It's like what people say about Toei and the older dubs of Dragon Ball that are still lost, it's likely they'll never see the light of day because of the image Toei and Shueisha want for the series.

Since having made that previous post though, I've been informed the search team is still continuing to find new material and get in contact with some American talents who worked on the film. However we're still no closer to really getting the film or making leads that would get us closer to it, so in my eyes the search is still pretty much at a dead end

It's like finding production information about the Me and My Friends pilot when we know the director might have a copy but never replied to our message asking about it. Yeah information is great but it doesn't help us get any closer to finding the actual piece of lost media.
