Gravity Falls is a good show to watch, and Steven Universe too (The commercials make it look like it only appeals to your 5 year old cousin, but the show is muck darker than that. ).
Also as johnhall777 said, The Simpsons is a good show, especially the earlier seasons.

Then again, Johnhall777 is a troll.

I have hacked into the government data base, and here's what it said. Iguanas are actually controlled by goldfish. You see, when they are very young, they eat a goldfish, but the goldfish stretches their fins to the top of the iguanas brain and transports their brain through their fins to the iguanas brain and take control over it.

Both are amazing, and yeah, SU gets DARK. Like, crazy psychological horror and a lot of really heartbreaking characterization. Absolutely wonderful show, though the fandom is kind of awful. GF is even darker, but the commercials and such never really tried to hide it, IIRC. I can't recommend either of them highly enough--they're seriously some of the best shows to air in the past few years, animated or not.
Rick And Morty is also excellent. It looks like a stupid toilet humor-ridden mess at first but good lord, it gets amazing.
Also, I can't believe no one's mentioned Futurama! For shame! That one's pretty damn popular, though, so I'm assuming OP has already watched it. Either way, it's excellent--the post-revival seasons are a bit weaker overall but they're still fun, and I thought the finale was beautiful.
Finally, since I've been on a bit of a personal nostalgia kick, Clone High is worth watching too. It's such an absurd concept, and yet somehow it works. It's a very, very fun show, though if you're frustrated by cliffhangers you should probably stay away; it was tragically canceled after just one season and ends on a massive cliffhanger.
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I have some recommendations from my childhood that I loved as a kid and still do to this day. They are:
SpongeBob SquarePants: It's my favorite TV show of all time and watching most of the old episodes still brings a smile to my face and makes me laugh. I don't mind the later seasons as I still found humor and enjoyment in them (except for some bad ones, including "One Coarse Meal" and "Gone"). I also find the two theatrical films The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004 and SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water in 2015 to be quite as good as the show (though I thought that the 2004 movie was better for its heartfelt message of being yourself).
Kim Possible: A huge favorite show of mine back in the day, I loved this show for its clever humor and awesome action scenes. The show is basically like James Bond meets high school as Kim and her sidekick Ron Stoppable face their enemies while facing problems in their daily lives in-between their missions. Kim and Ron had such believable chemistry with each other that I knew that they were going to get together soon and the show's rogue gallery was memorable and fun. And who can't forget Rufus, Ron Stoppable's adorable naked mole rat that tags along with the duo?
Danny Phantom: A very fun show to watch as it was about Danny Fenton (also known by the show's titular superhero ego) gaining ghost powers after he accidentally gets zapped by his father's ghost portal experiment and has to protect his city Amityville from the ghosts that escape from the portal. The characters were memorable, likable and the action scenes and humor was great. I also liked how original the show was with its rogue gallery and I feel that this is the best show that Butch Hartman has produced.
Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra: I watched the full series of both on DVD with my sister and we both absolutely loved it for its deep and often dark storylines (unlike other Nickelodeon cartoons, both shows have continuity for each next episode, which I thought was executed very well), great humor to lighten up the mood and its spectacular fight scenes. With Avatar: The Last Airbender, I loved how each characters were developed and how the main storyline of stopping the Fire Nation's war upon other nations progess by each season with Aang learning a new element. The Legend of Korra was also just as good as its predecessor with its identifiable characters, memorable action scenes, good humor and interesting storylines.
That's all from me and my top favorite cartoons of all time.
Despite the frustrations of normal day life we go through, the best thing to do about it is still being happy for our friends and family.
