Now, I’m pretty sure this will be easy to find, due to how much I remember about it. But, since I don’t know the first thing about searching for unidentified media, I thought I’d ask here.
I saw this cartoon around 20010 or 2011, on my grade 3 or 4 camp. Unfortunately, I can’t exactly confirm what station it aired on, but it was definitely one of the Australian free to air kids’ networks. Most likely ABC3 (or any other ABC network). This also aired in the evening, as I recall watching it after dinner.
The cartoon episode aired after a rerun of Kid Vs Kat, and I got to admit it was quite the tonal shift. It was some kind of anime inspired cartoon but could have also been an English dubbed anime. This did probably air on ABC3 after all, which is known for randomly airing Anime.
Anyway, the scene I saw featured a little girl saying goodbye to her mother before she went out. They lived in an old wood cottage in the forest. The girl was talking to her doll while her mother went shopping, but the house was quickly ambushed by an older man (probably one of the series villains).
I distinctly remember the man burning the house down with a lantern or something, but he also rescued and took the girl for some reason. The girl dropped her doll on her way out of the burning house and cried for it, but couldn’t go back inside due to the flames, resulting in her breaking down into tears. The villain also seemed oddly caring and gentle.
The show was quickly shut off and the channel was changed after that, possibly due to the cartoon being too heavy. I do remember it scaring me and making me tear up after all. Especially as I did (and still do) have a fear of house fires.
I hope this information helps. This cartoon / anime episode has been bugging me for years and I’d love to watch it again.
