Back in the 90s, I used to live in Mexico. Back then there used to be a publicly-owned channel that would only run educational content for people of all ages and topics. It would run both live action and animated shows. There were blocks of programming that would run content depending on age group, so it had a children's block as well that would run on weekday mornings.
This children's block would also run live action and animated shows that were local and from around the world, including Japan, the UK, the US, and other countries. There was one cartoon that would discuss sexual education. It featured a young white girl and a black boy asking this old woman about different aspects of sexual education, including puberty. The girl had short reddish hair. The old woman had short white hair and had round glasses.I think this old woman was the girl's grandmother. She would gladly respond to their questions and as she spoke, the cartoon would play different animated segments about what the woman was talking about. One thing that I remember in particular is that all the main characters all had these big dark eyes. Actually, these three were the only characters seen apart from the other animated segments. It was very objective in how it delivered the material without getting too serious.
By looking at the animated style and content, I'm quite sure it was neither a local (Mexican) or even a US production. I'm gravitating to possibly being made in an European country or even possibly Canada or Australia. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally French.
I cannot find the name of the show since I don't even remember it even showed the name during the opening credits.

Was it at times gross?
It wasn't "gross", but it would have been considered a bit graphic in some countries. For instance, in one episode it would talk about the differences between male and female reproductive organs and show them.
