I am quite a big fan of HBO's semi-new miniseries The Night Of, and as fans of the show likely know, the part of John Stone first went to ex-Sopranos actor James Gandolfini in autumn 2012, who had also signed on as executive producer. However, he died suddenly a month after it had been greenlit by HBO, having only shot for two days with co-star Riz Ahmed, according to this interview with him. However, it does seem that a full pilot was created, although Gandolfini's role was little, as implied by Gandolfini's eventual replacement John Turturro in this interview. There is an IMDb page for this pilot that lists the cast with some interesting differences other than Gandolfini's presence, namely that John Stone's first name was first meant to be "Jack". I know this is up to HBO, who haven't released pilots for some of their major shows, like GoT, but I would find it interesting to see one of Gandolfini's last projects as an actor.
