The Wikia version of the site has recently gotten a lot of more categories recently...

Originally, I added the "Lost comics" category since I consider it as a worthy category as it is a media on its own... (although it was deleted at first, and I recreated it later when I became a moderator)

But now, it has gotten a little crazy. Some of those new categories have become ridiculous and a bit too specific, others I think could apply to the new wiki. What do you think?

Those new categories:
Lost Scenes: When it's just part of a movie or any audiovisual media that is missing, not the full product. - Possibly... I mean, I have always found it a bit extreme to categorize an article about a few seconds of movie footage missing as "Lost movies"...
Lost Direct-To-Video Films: Self-explanatory. I am a bit dubious about its eligibility.
Lost Short Films: If it is short, should it be mentioned? I hardly think so.
Lost Dubs: I say, why not? There are many articles on dubs of cartoons and whatnot, and considering that a dub usually only creates new audio and thus, not new animation, maybe we could think of something.
Lost Anime: A different category from "animation", because it is Japanese? Uhh...? I am hesitant.
Lost Disney: For all media from the Walt Disney Company. - Uhh, okay... Disney is no longer the whimsical land of Mickey, Donald and all those cartoons you enjoyed as a child... they are now making entertainment products that encompass so many properties it barely deserves a mention... in my opinion...
Lost Nickelodeon: As I said...?
Lost Britt Allcroft: For anything related to The Britt Allcroft Company or Gullane. Uhhh... honestly, this sounds awkward and specific... I know there are a lot of Thomas and Mumfie fans around here, but come on...
Lost Veggietales/Lost Wiggles/Kablam: Okay... if there are multiple missing media from a specific franchise, does it warrant a category for this franchise? I am myself a bit divided on this...
Lost Video Games Demos: Hahahaha! Oh wow... No...

Okay, so what do you guys think?

Lost scenes: Don't give each scene its own page. Group scenes by director or genre so that people using the random button (like me) don't end up cycling through twenty pages of scenes from one film.
Lost direct to video films: Go ahead. I can't see anything wrong with this.
Lost short films: Stick them with the rest of the films.
Lost dubs: Keep them where they are, but make the 'dub' part clear.
Lost anime: Maybe. Is there enough to make another category worth the effort?

Of course, I might be talking complete rubbish (I normally am), but I just wanted to give my opinion.

(imo) Lost Scenes and Lost Dubs aren't bad ideas, but I feel like we already have those covered with Partially Lost/Found Media and Lost Audio, respectively. As for everything else, I feel like they're so specific that a simple search would suffice (if i wanted to find pages on lost anime, I'd search "anime", if I wanted pages on lost disney, I'd search "disney", etc.) Direct to video films and short films are still films and should probably stay under that category.
EDIT: Well, if it's possible to set up subcategories like they were on the old wiki, where they only show up once you go to the main category they're a part of, then I wouldn't be against some of these. I just don't want too many cluttering up the main categories list.

I was also wondering if there could be categorization for articles on topics that are not lost media per se, but pertaining to it. For example, an article on Shoegazer's Lost Media Chronicles, an article on silver nitrate and its effect on old movie reels causing their loss... (LMW-tan has her own page here!

And on the old wikia, there was once an article on Shitasticular, categorized on "joke pages").

Unfortunately, we don't have time machines yet, so there are a few things that are lost for good. As SenaUW mentioned, there are a lot of old films that were destroyed years ago, such as the ones that met with a terrible fate during the vault fires of 1937 and 1967. If we do manage to travel back to those times, we'll just have to update the wiki. For now, I think that the 'lost for good' category is a good idea. At least I won't end up spending years searching for something that hasn't existed for decades.

Articles about things related to the Wiki itself... I'm not so sure. Articles related to the loss of media would be interesting though. Like articles on the practice of wiping master tapes, on the fires mentioned by smittzero, all sorts of accidents/incidents that led to loss of material. Have articles like those under their own category.

You've hit an important point. I remember someone complaining about how most media documented here isn't actually lost, just unavailable to the general public/available in low numbers. Since rare material is admitted, there could be a distinction between "Definitely lost", "Unreleased", "Unresurfaced", etc. This status is sometimes explicit in article titles, but most of the time the generic term "lost" is used instead (infoboxes all use "Lost" for unavailable status too). In this case we could have either a specific category (like there is the "Found media" one) to go along the media type categories, or go ahead and fix all the hundreds of article titles in order to reflect their true status.
This wouldn't just sort things, but also help people who are willing to search for media. A sane person wouldn't search for something that's not around anymore if they knew that in advance.

Lost tv-nicklodeon-kablam-(then all lost info for kablam)

Or anything related to Jimmy neutron lost bumpers

So if the pages are not to long, they they need to be grouped together.I noticed 3 sepreate pages on lost scenes and scrapped episodes from the same show that can be put into one page itself.scrapped and lost scenes particularly ones that never got animated needs to be with scrapped ideas.Lost dubs need to be under anime.

Honestly Renard if it helps,just try to slim unessisary pages down by making channel or subcategory pages,and by sticking multipaged shows together like kablam or wiggles.

Lost tapes,anime (with sub category for lost dubs), direct to video,and short films need derect pages.

Under animation or TV needs subcategories for TV channels with alot of missing content like nick, cartoon network or even shows like the wiggles if there's to much for 1 page.

Also under all main pages for film,tv,animation,ect needs a sub page for cut content or lost scenes if any lost content is for a show with a page already it needs to be put on the already made page. Other wise new one is made under (film-cut content-show).

It's the easiest way to file multiple pages.

Agreed; there's definitely a difference between a silent film whose only known copies have been lost in a fire and, say, an out-of-print but still-existing video game. To use tropes, Missing Episode vs. Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Why yes, those are definitely interesting possibilities. But if one is easily available, if the "tapes" are being circulated frequently, then it is still considered "found".
