So this is a kind of follow up to something I asked, but I couldn't get a really concrete answer for. See, I have a VHS with some stuff on it I would love to just be able to convert to a DVD or something, but it's kind of broken...but not entirely. The film itself is untouched and it's never been "opened" or broken and last time I watched it, it worked perfectly and looked clear and was not impossible to run through the machine. The problem is the...thing I don't know what it's called that connects the end of the tape to the other "wheel" or whatever is broke so all the film is on one wheel, but the film itself is untouched and as far as I can tell unaffected. So is it possible to fix this, or have someone repair it, or is it lost forever?
I'm not an expert by any means but from what you describe this sounds like it would be a fairly easy fix involving opening up the VHS plastic shell and reattaching the magnetic tape to the reel. This tutorial video I found explains how to do that:
Sounds like your VCR failed to slow down enough before it finished rewinding, snapping the ribbon off the spool. It's happened a few times to me. Tudor Rose's video covers a mid-ribbon snap, but a ribbon-from-spool snap is a bit trickier to fix. Take a piece of scotch tape, cut it in half longways. Apply the two pieces to the end of the ribbon, hanging off of it, overlapping each other so it will still fit between the spool, sticky side towards the casing. Then, using a small blunt object (I have a small screwdriver that I use for VHS tapes, so I use the handle of that), apply the taped ribbon-end to the core of the empty spool. Then reassemble, and test the tape.
