Hello, first post here but I've loved lost media and this site for a while. There's an animated collection of poems that I and a few other people remember that no one has been able to identify or find as far as I know. There is a Reddit thread that contains some of the information I don't personally remember (link at the end), but here is my summary:
The most clearly known segment, remembered by three people including myself, is an animated adaption of the poem The Duel (also frequently remembered as The Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat) by Eugene Field. It is just the poem being read to some simple animation, it had an eerie feel (all three people who remember it agree on that part) and showed the imagery described in the poem. I am 95% certain I saw this on Nickelodeon in the early or mid-90s, I believe it was shown as filler between shows, my most vivid memory of it is seeing it in the afternoon around the time the channel transitioned from Nick Jr. to regular Nickelodeon.
The short based on that poem seems to be part of an animated video or TV special that showed several poems in a similar format. The ones others have mentioned are The Tale of August Who Would Not Eat His Soup, The Dreadful Story about Harriet and the Matches, and an unidentified poem about seeing insect shadows passing by a bedroom. All the poems had an eerie feel like the one I remembered. It had a wrap around segment where you saw a car being driven from a first person view, with different radio stations reciting the poems in the anthology. At one point "you" were driving the car underwater. I don't remember the details in this paragraph personally except for possibly the wrap around segment, but they have been mentioned by others. The video is believed to be from the 80s or early 90s.
It should be noted that Nickelodeon aired a Christmas special loosely based on The Duel in the 1980s, I do not believe this is connected to the animation I am trying to find, the tone and only focusing on one poem are major differences. If anyone can help find this short and/or the full special I would greatly appreciate it, I've seen amazing things come from lost media hunts here.
