Inspired by the recent bounty for the lost "Oprah" Donald Trump episode, what other lost media would be so significant that a bounty were to be put on it?
I think I accidentally caused a little drama so I may as well keep going. As I've said, bounties should absolutely be allowed. With that disclaimer, I don't think they are wise.
I think you will end up splitting efforts, most lost media finds not found by our power users, are found as the result of group efforts. It's a few dozen, or in some cases hundreds, of people coming together to look for something. A reward of $1000 isn't that much when split among 20 people, especially when it requires a lot of hours of effort.
Additionally, a lot of lost media is found through contacting people, do you really want an incentive to break centralization, this will result in 500 emails that never get answered instead of 5 that may get answered.
People generally do this because they love it, not because it is a job. A bounty will cause more harm than good.

Wasn't there a bounty years ago for Dead End (1985), assuming it ever existed?
I agree with shlomo though about how a bounty can cause more harm than good. Also, who is issuing these bounties and is willing to put out a certain amount of cash if it evolves into a group effort? I suppose at that point it would become a question of how much of the search is for the bounty and not because they genuinely want to see this case get solved.
