I would like to propose a rule about lost media with bounties attached to them. Recently, a person on Reddit proposed a bounty for a piece of lost media, in their original post they encouraged people to find us to help with the search. Whether you choose to help with the search or not is strictly your choice, however, it is completely immoral to attempt to trick people into doing work for free that they would otherwise be paid for. It is one thing to work out of passion and love, it is another thing to be a hired detective.
Obviously, bounties should be allowed, however if a person wants the community to help with a bountied piece of media, they should have to be upfront about the existence of a bounty. I propose the following: "Any member who posts a piece of lost media with a bounty attached to it must make the bounty known to all members in the original post, and link to the website where the bounty can be claimed"
To be clear, the OP of the Reddit thread is trycoconutoil, not the person who started the thread about it here and conveniently neglected to mention the bounty on it. It's still not a bad idea to have it disclosed in the first post of any thread for lost media with a known bounty on it, though.
Edit: am currently on my way home from work; I'll clarify my position on this proposal some more once I get settled in back at home.
how would this be enforced? some people (including me) aren't active on places like reddit where bounties are often brought up, and i generally have no idea about their existance. i'd hate to be punished for simply not knowing about one.
I can see this being an issue as, like Polybius pointed out, there's a chance someone could post something here without knowing there is a bounty on it, which would be unfair to punish them for.
What I think I will do from now on, if there are any known bounties for any posts on here, I will edit the OP's post to include a note about it (and anyone can always feel free to send me a message if they spot any that I missed).

How does that sound to you guys?
That sounds incredibly fair, although it would be pretty unlikely that a person wouldn't know (I.E. they just so happen to stumble into a big hunt!) I could see it happening if there is enough hype and people are just really passionate.
I think we can have a "know it when you see it" style of enforcement. Lots of lost media has small bounties attached, generally not more than $200 for things like Dashcon DVDs, but when the bounty is significant (In the case of this user, $1200) I believe that there should be a warning label to avoid users abusing the community. I also think there should be a rule in place if a bounty is announced after the initial forum post, but that may be planning too far ahead.
I do not predict that this will be a major issue going forward, but there should be a protocol to handle it.

Honestly that sounds like the best you can do in this type of situation. I just saw the post in question and until I did see your reply, there were alarm bells because OP of the lost media thread wasn't explaining why they wanted that episode in particular so I was suspicious. Of course not of a bounty, I just thought someone died in that episode or something because that tends to be the intrigue with things like that.
Rest assured, I also think anyone doing a general search for anything would more than likely stumble upon the bounty naturally. I mean at least in this case with the post in question, as the bounty was posted on reddit first and I personally always use reddit posts as a means of following a search trail. But I think you editing posts will be the most helpful, and like you said we can always message you if we see something like that.
