Hi all,
I am currently looking for information on/and locating a five minute short film that Coe Film Associates distributed in the early 90's called 'Mirage'.
I was a big fan, and used to tape a lot of the short films and animation that used to go out on Channel 4 in the UK about 20+ years back, but sadly most of these tapes are now gone. In the last few years I have started researching some of these and I am now putting together a booklet and DVD compilation, which I am looking to release via my label Lavender Sweep Records - lavendersweep.bandcamp.com
'Mirage' was shown on Channel 4 in the UK twice on 29th December 1993 and 4th September 1994. Unfortunately, there is nothing online about this film anywhere. Channel 4 checked their archive and said it was distributed by Coe Film Associates, who would distribute films across the world.
The TV listing synopsis of 'Mirage' reads, "Short film about a thirsty man who finds a drinks dispenser in the desert."
And what I remember... a thirsty man in the desert sees a drinks dispenser. He then finds a coin in the sand and puts it into the machine. The drink comes out, but unfortunately for the guy, it comes out before the cup and the drink goes straight down the drainage. An empty cup then follows after the drink goes to waste. The film then ends. A strange sounding film I know, but you'd expect nothing less from Channel 4 in the 1990's!
If I could find some further information like director/producer or even the name of the lone actor in the film, then maybe I can locate it.
The files from the Coe company can’t be accessed at the moment and so I couldn’t check to see if they had any details on file. The company finished about 20 years back when Bernice Coe passed away.
Is there anyone out there that remembers the film? Or has any advice on how to look for it? I was once told the film might be an orphan film, meaning that it might have been abandoned by its owner or copyright holder.
I have no idea what country the film is from, so maybe it goes by a different name depending on which country it came from, so I guess someone with access to worldwide TV listings might be able to help?
I have been searching for this since 1994, as I made a huge error of taping over the short by mistake with a football game, and now I feel like I have exhausted all options of locating it. I'm starting to think the film was an actual memory mirage !
All the best
