Some of you might remember the days of "Clockman" and "A Day with Spongebob Squarepants" searches when it seemed like the whole internet's eyes were on the LMW community to find these "Lost" pieces of media. However, ever since Clockman was found, there hasn't been any real big searches on here or any other forum websites (such as 4chan and reddit) as far as I'm aware. So do you think there could be another "big search" that could happen again? What would need to happen in order to gain the whole internets attention to a piece of Lost Media? I would like to hear your opinions on whether or whether or not another big search could happen again.
I'd argue the Pink Morning Cartoon search got a bit of attention. But honestly, these things seem to happen naturally. There just has to be enough intrigue universally. I would just focus on the things that interest you, as it will more than likely interest other people, and work from there.
The biggest thing I'd personally like to participate in search of is that JBVO DBZ episode, but I think it's at a standstill right now.

I didn't come onto lost media until recently. PMC got some larger attention, but I believe that is at a standstill. I think big searches will come naturally like co stated. I would like to help with larger searches as well, but they seem not to be cropping up yet. For now, just looks at smaller ones. That is what I am doing

Honestly I think it's fun to find obscure childhood things for people. I used to do that on the discord a lot, but found that the forums were slower paced so a search could be returned to opposed to pushed up by other comments. There are plenty of big lost media searches I can think of that aren't solved, maybe reviving some of those would stir up some interest.
The one that's coming to mind is the lost Sailor Moon American pilot (not the dub but an actual American version of the show), I think someone from buzzfeed (or y'know one of those sites) tried to find it and wrote a whole article about how arduous the task was, just not to uncover the pilot. But we know it exists somewhere out there, there are cells, a script, and the intro was leaked at a con in the 2000s which is up on YouTube.
Of course that's just an example. I think the reason Clockman, ADWS, and now PMC generated a lot of interest was the total mystery and creepiness that surrounded them.
I've also seen some people on the forums lament the fact that not enough effort is dedicated to finding old lost cinema, but in my opinion that's a much harder search, and maybe that's why.
Idk total tangent, but wanted to share further thoughts.

...you guys could help look for Cartoon Lost and Found...
;_;)
In all seriousness, I've heard that someone may have found a video with the whole show or at least the second part(s?) on it, and as soon as I get some time on my hands I'm going through my old videos for the one I used to watch as a kid, which has the whole thing on it. But if anyone has any deeper info feel free to come out!

I'll poke my head in. Seems like it's a matter of waiting tho right?

Hopefully, yes...if all goes well, then L SuperSonic Q has made contact with a forum poster mentioned in the main article who has at least part of the show on tape and I THINK that I still do. So God willing, one or both of us can get access to it. Hopefully.

I contacted that one user on the sitcom forums that had it, but LSuperSonicQ already has contact with him. I can check if they replied tho to me. Will edit this when I do check.
Edit: Nope, they didn't reply to me. I don't have any other leads other than that person, so I think it is a waiting game for now

Ah ok then. I think what you said about the creep factor is true, although once they are found it seems like the actual videos are more wholesome then the original descriptions (Cracks and Clockman)

Isn't that interesting? Very rarely are these things as creepy as people actually remember. But it being creepy seems to be a bigger draw for some reason?
On another note, I know this is a wiki for literal lost media, but I wonder if a master list of the big unsolved threads would be helpful for some. People sometimes come here making duplicate threads for the big searches (mysterious song, evil farming game), and I wonder if it would be helpful if there was a thread of unresolved searches linked. Just something someone could refer to if they wanted to take a crack at one of the many searches without skimming through several pages. Unless something like that exists here, or maybe this being a literal wiki site it would be kinda pointless, but the threads themselves are helpful to refer to imo.

For a big search to happen it would probably have to fill a few criteria which a day with spongebob, Clockman etc all fill -
1. Be interesting to outsiders - people who do not search for lost media or are even aware of the forum must be interested in it in some way, a creepy cartoon or spongebob squarepants are both perfect examples for getting outsiders interested.
2. Has to have some people talking about it already, for example "The most mysterious song on the internet" just started as one guy but as more people got involved it became a bigger and bigger community and now there is a ton of people searching for it.
3. Luck. - A big youtuber needs to make a video on it to bring it more attention thats basically what caused most big searches in the past.
Theres probably a lot of other criteria but that just comes to mind when i think about large scale searches.
what would happen if say the lost media wiki or the internet archive got deleted like company burning down LMW having something its not supposed to would that be a big search

that doesn't make any sense at all.

I will say, as has been stated: a LOT of it is luck. You need something that people actually want to find, and something that actually has a way of being found (or at least leads), and something that ACTUALLY gets attention. I was briefly involved in the Rag Dolly search--that didn't get any major acknowledgement outside its own small circle until literal months after the search ended. That's insane--a literal Broadway musical, based off a century-old toy franchise, and it had SUCH a small search party?? There're also efforts to remake a lost browser MMO right now, called Dizzywood--I actually made a thread on that here, but because it's not as well-remembered as Toontown or Club Penguin, and because many of our leads have dried up, it's mostly turned into a community of reminiscing on what once was. I ALSO know there are four lost songs by Alan fuckin' Menken, for a cancelled Roger Rabbit sequel, but again... you need to get people talking, and you need to get people doing. There needs to be a community, and a plan of action. Or things just fizzle out.

There's so many factors that lead to a search becoming big. I'd say the main factors are:
-Allure: Some things have an allure which make them sought after and make so many people interested in it enough to find it. These allures include it being downright disturbing (like Saki Sanobashi), inappropriate or scary content in a kid's program (like how Cracks and Clockman had a pretty scary description for being on a show for children) or being knockoffs/unlicensed (Like a day with SpongeBob SquarePants). I've mentioned before how much of an allure Saki Sanobashi has, just because people really want to see disturbing content like that.
-Exposure: Being covered or mentioned on a popular YouTuber's channel can be huge for a piece of lost media. It reaches more people than it would on the forum, as all the subscribers and people who come from recommended videos who don't normally go on the forum see it and become interested in the search.
-Notoriety and Nostalgia: Things that are lost from big franchises can get a bigger search because people who just care about that media, not lost media in general, come to look for it. Nostalgia is also a big part- if something was lost that you remember from your childhood, you would probably want to look around to find it in order to see a piece of your childhood again.
Those are the things I think make a search big, but I bet I'm missing some.
