Hello Lost Media Wiki,
I certainly have a mystery for you today. I am currently part of an ongoing search for what has been dubbed "That evil farming game" by its searchers. The search is mostly hosted at www.reddit.com/r/ThatEvilFarmingGame/ but I wanted to expand the search and pull in the expertise of those who have some experience locating unidentified and thought to be lost media.
The person originally searching for this game posted in r/tipofmyjoystick, but no one was able to locate it. Later, others copied his post looking for a similar game, but these have all now been discounted as trolls / karma seekers.
Here is a summary of the game from the memory of the OP:
- The game looks and plays similarly to Harvest Moon for the Super Nintendo, but has a dark twist.
- Near the beginning of the game, you get into an argument with your wife / girlfriend and end up killing her.
- After the murder takes place, you must hide the body and avoid suspicion by continuing your daily life as a farmer.
- The police eventually start showing up at your farm looking for evidence, and in order to avoid getting caught, you must move the body regularly.
- You could upgrade your farm to add more hiding spots for the body.
- There is a town with towns people you can interact with, but to what degree, we do not know.
- The game was a decent length and supported save files.
In addition to the game description, the OP provided the following information:
- He believes he played it post 2008 (his post looking for the game came in 2016)
- He has no idea where he got it, but believes it to have been a Windows/PC game
- He doesn't know when it was made, but gave a broad timeline of when he thinks he may have been made (2000-2015). My personal opinion is that it would be closer to 2000 than it would be to 2015, but who knows.
The OP is still involved in the search with us and I have spoken with him recently on the r/thatevilfarminggame discord. If you go looking, there are multiple videos / reddit threads about the search for this game. The information I am providing here is the most up to date / accurate that I am aware of, and I made it a point not to include any information that we currently believe to be inaccurate / made up. However, feel free to look through the sub reddit or various youtube videos about the subject at your own discretion.
There is also a large list of debunked games here: www.reddit.com/r/ThatEvilFarmingGame/comments/eyiv59/gamesmovies_that_have_already_been_brought/ - So if you think you know what the game might be, I would very much appreciate it if you could compare it to this list to make sure it hasn't already been ruled out, as we get a lot of false positives already.
I did not post a link to the discord as I do not know if that is allowed here, but if someone wants it and can confirm it's ok to post; I will do so. You can also get the link from the sub reddit.
Thanks all who look into this, hopefully we can find a new lead together. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to provide you additional information.
