Ok, this game has been haunting me for a long time now. I remember back in the early 2000s when we had a family PC. This game (I'M ASSUMING) came from a CD with a collection of many games you can have on Windows. The computer was likely running on Vista or Windows 7. The game starred a fat, greasy grey rat in a tanktop. I don't remember the story it followed, but I faintly remember some kind of motive to either leave the sewer life or to find someone or something. The gameplay itself was a puzzle platformer where a lot of the blocks were made of cheese, and there was some slimey substance at one point? I only can remember the visuals, which were fitting for the time. It was 3D animated, however I wouldn't be surprised if it was sprites taken from frames of 3D animation made for the game. It was a generic cartoony 3D style for it's time. There were no backgrounds, just a black void that the cheese blocks floated within. I have searched ALL OVER to find this game, and the closest I ever got was Worms Armageddon. While the games are unrelated, the cheese platforms from both games are quite similar. I hope someone can at least say they remember this game, because this game's existence has been an awful mystery ever since I thought of it again.
I don't know if this is it, since it doesn't totally match your description. But here's a game I found called Bad Rats, and it is 3D rat puzzle game that was on Windows, more than likely Windows 7. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bad_Rats
Long shot but it wouldn't happen to have been Ratinator from MaidMarian would it?
Doesn't seem like it. I've never even seen anything like MaidMarian before. The graphics are somewhat similar, but the visuals are far from what I remembered. The rat I remember was grey and fatter than the rat in Ratinator. The game itself was a 2D sidescroller (I guess you can say?), but it used sprites taken from frames of 3D animation... Either that, or there are actual 3D models in the game, but the camera is looking at it all like a regular 2D sidescroller. The game pack it (potentially) came from was more like a generic pack of Windows Vista games you could buy at Walmart at the time. Something similar to Hoyle Board Games, but I can assure you that this game more than likely didn't come from that. HOWEVER. I do remember that around this time, I've seen or maybe even played Etch a Sketch (PC, 2008) around the time I saw this rat game. This is unlikely, but I feel like this game could've come from the same game pack as the rat game. Either that, or the games came from the same site if it was downloaded? The problem is though, I don't remember where this game even could've been downloaded. I remember it was a program similar to Steam, but it was way more appealing to older people who wanted to get games for their kids on the computer or something. It could've very likely been WildTangent Downloader, as I remember that we got Chicken Invaders from a download, and WildTangent was likely the only place you could get it that way at the time.
It would've been Vista; Windows 7 didn't come out until 2009
Windows Vista was extremely likely, but I mentioned Windows 7 in case the memories of that game actually came about the early 2010s instead. Thank you, though, it let me check out what Vista looked like again and it's the OS I remember the most when it comes to this memory.
