The Last Movies You Saw... and What You Thought Of them!

i rewatched the south park movie (the 90s one) and i gotta say, it was better than i remember

bigger, longer and uncut, covid ones are still ass

Zoey 102: Been looking forward to this film for quite some time as someone who grew up watching the original series and overall I had a pretty good time with it. The old cast comfortably slip back into their roles like they never left and get in some good character development and there's still legit chemistry with Quinn/Logan and Zoey/Chase, I was surprised that this film looked like it had some actual money behind it. There are some pretty good laughs(all the numerous and well-deserved jabs at godawful reality shows with Zoey's job and the biggest LOL moment for me-Michael doing Karaoke for Limp Bizkit's "Rollin")and the film is well-paced overall and there were a few twists I didn't see coming and cliches that were neatly subverted. Though I do have a few issues with it. Logan having a sister who's never been mentioned before on the show stuck out(though I have a feeling her role was originally supposed to be played by Lola, but due to Victoria Justice having scheduling issues preventing her from filming they had to come up with a new character instead, speaking of which I was also bummed to not see Dana or Nicole, though with everything Alexa's been through I get her not wanting to be involved, didn't miss Dustin though considering what a dickhead his actor has been in recent years)and I wasn't crazy the explanation for why Chase and Zoey broke-up, having her leave him in Hawaii didn't feel true to her character and I don't see why they couldn't have simply had them break up in college(as that's how most high-school couples break up in real life)Also didn't care for the random retcon of PCA not being a real school, that introduces way too many plot holes and makes no sense if you stop and think about it for more then a few minutes, that bit felt like it was thrown in there solely to acknowledge the many jokes fans made about how unrealistic PCA was, but there's a problem when you acknowledge a real-life joke without considering how nonsensical it is in the context of the show's universe. Speaking of things that don't make sense-WTF was up with the random last shot revealing that one actor playing Zoey's fake boyfriend is potentially the Malibu Murderer? That really does not make sense if you think about it for more then a minute as if he was the murderer why do a job that requires him to be in public and why go on a reality show that'll draw attention to yourself? So i'm choosing to believe that last-shot is a fake-out and the guy really isn't the murderer(unless the director of the film is planning to continue that plot if there's a TV show spun off from the film which she says she's interested in doing). Still despite those issues overall the film was a pretty good time and i wouldn't mind seeing more of these characters in a TV show.

Saw Barbie-it tried to do and say too much at once in too many scenes and the pacing was too fast, but the acting is great, the writing (when focused) was solid, the direction was great, the set design was superb, and the actual message (s) were quite interesting and meaningful. I get the gripes people had with it but I personally liked it IMO.

The Little Vampire(2000): Interesting supernatural comedy(which is apparently based on a series of books i've never heard of) featuring Jonathon Lipnicki of the Stuart Little movies who proves he's a capable actor when he's not playing second-fiddle to a mouse. There's some nice UK locations and the friendship between Tony and young vampire Rudolph is pretty charming and has some funny moments(like Tony having to explain slang terms like "duh" to him and when Tony gets his revenge on the school bullies)Richard E Grant thankfully does not treat this as a kids film that's beneath him and puts in a solid performance. There's also a pretty solid late 90s early 00s pop soundtrack featuring the likes of Aaron Carter and Angela Vie, all in all an entertaining film that deserves more attention.
