Finally got around to seeing the Beethoven DTV sequels(at least the sequels to the original theatrical films, I saw Beethoven's Big Break over a decade ago which is mostly unconnected to the other films and features different characters, haven't checked out Christmas Adventure or Treasure Tail yet)and found them pretty enjoyable. 3rd has a weird running gag about an obscure western("Shakiest Gun in the West" of which the DVD has some computer imprint thing on it)along with two villains so dumb you'll swear they have brain-damage(though they do provide some laughs). 4th does the Prince and the Pauper plot though in an interesting twist neither family ever realizes that their dogs switched places and just assume they're acting different for other reasons(and neither of the families interact with the other family which does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity), Judge Reinhold and Julia Sweeney both are pretty affable and amusing in both of them. 5th features Sara (though she's played by a different actress from the previous two films)and Beethoven visiting her weird uncle in a former mining town and there's some interesting mystery involving missing money from bank robbers(which did keep my guessing admittedly)there's a few big names in the film like Kathy Griffin and John Larroquette. Though both are kinda wasted as the film has a few too many characters(including one weird family who only gets a few scenes which makes you wonder why they are even in the film)resulting in many of them getting little to no development, Griffin is essentially stuck playing a crazy shop owner(with a weird running gag or her dog being in love with Beethoven)and Larroquette's character makes so little impression i'd forgotten about him until the end. There's also a subplot about Sara's uncle being in love with the young hot female sheriff which feels like it really deserved more screentime then the town's many weird side-characters who ultimately don't add much to the film(like the one guy with a gambling addiction who keeps on trying to bet with Sara and get her to play games with him). I did like the boy Sara befriends who turns out to be smart in his own right and I did like some of the weird touches in the town(like the library full of dead stuffed cats). I think the film was solid overall but could've been better if it either had a longer runtime or cut out some of the unnecessary side characters and focused more on the main ones.
