Yeah, it would feel a bit redundant to have an anime category. But, I get where you're coming from since anime is a beast in its own regard with how much we're missing.

Lol I was also trying to subtly infer a difference in writing/animation quality between western and eastern animation, but now that you mention it, kinda yeah
Edit: I realized I put "and" in that post instead of "difference between just animation IN anime" lol
I don't really see why a separate category is needed. Anime isn't a different media type as such, it's just animation from a certain part of the world. If you're going to split things up to that extent, then there are quite a few other potential unnecessary categories too - E.G. 2D Animation / 3D Animation.
