I remember as a kid I saw this music video that featured guys singing about “day old donuts” to the tune of “Day O”. I think it aired on Nickelodeon as an interstitial, but it might have been a segment on some show. I think it featured the lyric “Day old donuts have got to go!” and featured boxes of donuts being stacked up with the prices being slashed and people breaking their teeth on them. I remember the guys singing on a sidewalk.
This would be in the early 90s. Does anyone else remember this? I’ve come across lyrics to similar spoofs, but I don’t think they are the same.
Sounds vaguely familiar but then again there is an episode of Corner Gas where the one character makes a cartoon and the cops think he's making fun of them for their donut eating habits and I grew up loving this show so I can't tell if it's mixed memories or not lol
I know it's been four years, but I stumbled on this thread because I've been searching for that same song.
Your memories are fine! I was in college when it was showing. I've been scouring the internet recently looking for it, and I can't find any reference to it anywhere except for this thread.
I remember bits and pieces of the lyrics...
"They don't taste good, but they will fill ya (day old doughnuts have got to go!)
with that deadly salmonella! (day old doughnuts have got to go!)"
"They six days, seven days, eight days old!" (day old doughnuts have got to go!)
They six days, seven days, eight days old!" (day old doughnuts have got to go!)"
One other line I remember, "... and they're useful for playing baseball."
I remember Nickelodeon as well. It must have been an interstitial, because I'm sure I saw it more than once. But I have googled everything I can think of and can't find any reference to it anywhere. I'm gonna keep searching, and if it becomes important enough, I may even reach out to Nickelodeon.
I may have a lead: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/522480/rip-lois-sharon-bram Someone on that thread thinks that it might be a segment on one of Sharon, Lois and Bram’s shows which aired on Nickelodeon around the time. I am going to try to look through their works to find it.
I now believe that it was likely from Cappelli and Company. I watched Nick Jr around that time and I remember the guys in the commercial looking like him. The trouble is, that show is much more obscure than Sharon, Lois and Bram’s stuff.
