So there are some rumors about a 30 second clip from spirited away. This clip was cut from the movie and is only viewable on the original Japanese dvd. The clip takes place at the end of the movie and shows chihiro at school, a new student is introduced to her class and the student turns out to be Haku. This clip is not included on the English dvd and is shown after the credits on the Japanese dvd.
In the above source someone mentions they have seen this clip as a child on a German tv channel. They also mention the clip is at a animation studio in Tokyo, probably the Ghibli museum at Mitaka. I think there’s a good possibility this clip exists, miyazaki stated that there are hours of cut content for spirited away, so this clip could be the only thing that made it out. So if anyone has the original Japanese dvd, please show everyone!
I’m a bit doubtful that this clip exists. There’s some die-hard Ghibli fans out there, I feel like DVD collectors would’ve picked up on it pretty quickly. The only possibility in my mind of it existing is that it was shown at the Ghibli museum, because it isn’t unheard of for them to do stuff like that. There’s a short film called Mei and the Kittenbus that was shown there a few years back, as sort of a sequel to My Neighbor Tototro. While it isn’t considered lost media, it’s basically inaccessible to westerners and can only be viewed at the museum, and guests can’t bring recording equipment.
