I was browsing for rare cartoons when I came across this cheap-looking yet interesting one that aired in Arabia. the name is "غومر" which translates to "Gomer"
The Spacetoon program list in Arabic on Wikipedia says this synopsis. "A man named Gomer and his adventures with odd aliens". it even says the cartoon came from 1986 which would be surprising if true. CGI was pretty scarce back then. aside from the Intro I can't find anything else. I've searched up about any CGI cartoons that may have came out at the time this one did but didn't end up finding anything that resembles this one.
I have a big feeling that an English version of this cartoon exists somewhere. In the intro there is some English text that reads "Ouch!". and majority of the shows that aired on Spacetoon were acquired and not made originally for the network. it's even common for them to plaster different clips over their intros. we can hear sound effects in the background that were probably from the original version .
This is really interesting! Did the wiki page list the studio that made the series? I couldn't find the entry.
I think the look is pretty unique compared to a lot of early CG shows, so a specific studio might be known for this style.
My first guess would be late 90s or early 2000s? It kind of reminds me of the visual effects in Invader Zim, like the giant water balloon and the ships, where it has this kind of flat-ish look so it can blend with the 2D animation.
It could also be a recent show with a very small budget doing the best they can. That style of CG can look passable without breaking the bank. When Invader Zim was utilizing this type of CG in the early '00s it was still pretty expensive, but I think current tech makes a show like this possible on a smaller budget.
So maybe, if a current show, the 1980s-1990s were a stylistic inspiration? Idk. Very cool find!
Originally titled "Goomer", it's based on a Spanish comic character created in 1988, and it is the comic that is from the '80s. The animated series came in the early '2000s (IMDb lists the series as broadcast from 2000 to 2001, but the series' producers Bren Entertainment and Filmax Animation's website lists it as from 2002). A traditionally animated film came before in 1999, followed by this 26-episode series and another 13-episode flash web series.
