I'm sure a lot of people remember (for better or worse, maybe) the bubblegum pop group Aqua. They were massively popular in Europe and Asia at the end of the 1990s through until their split in 2001. They even endured in the U.S. to an extent, although their prominent success was limited to "Barbie Girl".
The band has a decent amount of unreleased music that is confirmed to exist, but has never surfaced. I've put together an article here, but here's a brief overview:
In a documentary from the era of first album Aquarium, the band revealed a new song called "Here Come The Birds". It was performed live in 1998, and a poor fan recording of this exists. It was at one point expected to be the lead single from the second album, and all likelihood points to it being recorded in the studio. It probably exists in record company vaults and may have spread further at the time. However, it has never been released.
A lot of songs were recorded for their second album Aquarius. Apparently, according to a very thorough fan site in 2005, the band fully produced as many as 50 songs before whittling this down to ten (and then adding two at the last minute). The band were actually very forthcoming about this at the time. No songs from these sessions, however, have been released.
Most notably, Aqua recorded material for an unnamed third album before their sudden split in 2001. They were apparently pursuing more of a "rock" sound (likely more pop-rock, similar to some of Lene's solo album) and performed four songs live: "Shakin' Stevens (Is A Superstar)", "Hi-Fi", "Wow Wow Wow" and Couch Potato". The first was performed live again following their reunion in 2007, and fan recordings dating to 2001 exist for the first three tracks. Again, these - and possibly more - were most likely recorded for their third album, but have never been released.
Finally, alternate versions of "Cartoon Heroes" (closer to their most famous Aquarium sound) and "Good Morning Sunshine" (with the rap at the beginning) are also confirmed to exist.
If anyone has any leads on these, it would be interesting! The band is so well-documented and even their obscure early singles and solo projects have survived, but none of this has surfaced.
