Hi all,
Long-time lurker, first-time poster.
I know there are a quite a few professional wrestling fans on this board and I wanted to shed some light on one of the great "missing" media pieces of WWF wrestling history: Jake Roberts DDT'ing Hulk Hogan on a "Snake Pit" segment.
There wasn't a Wiki page for it yet so I created one with lots of screen grabs, video, links to evidence, etc.
For those that don't know why it is so fascinating, Jake the Snake was a very captivating villain in 1986 for the WWF. Hulk Hogan was their golden goose. Roberts used his finishing move the DDT on Hogan on a segment taped to air for television with the intention of starting a rivalry on television. The intent was to make Roberts a super villain, keep Hogan a hero, and set up matches between the two to make lots of money via live event gates. The story, from both Hogan and Roberts, goes that the crowd reacted too positively to Roberts attacking the hero and the whole thing was nixed.
What is crazy is that the two would have matches and there are segments that people believe were aired not in their full capacity. There are generally three TV tapings that this lost segment has been narrowed down to with arguments being able to made for all three. The incident was cannon on WWF programming in the Providence and Winnipeg markets where the two actually had their matches (and did great business, for what it is worth).
Anyone else looking for this?
Here is the Wiki I made. Please forgive any formatting errors - it is my first page here! lostmediawiki.com/Jake_%22The_Snake%22_Roberts_DDTs_Hulk_Hogan
Thanks!
