Quite a bit of Devo's early stuff from the early-to-late 1970s has been archived via either official releases, such as the "Hardcore Devo" series, or bootlegs like "Ultracore 1974-77". However, there seems to be a demo tape that predates Devo's formation in 1973, but has yet to be recovered, even unofficially.
I first heard of this lost tape in the comment section of a video called "Devo: Whale Hall, 1973" on Youtube, in a comment left by the uploader, Marxism Noidism;
The video in which the comment was left on:
The uploader alleged that this demo tape had early versions of "Auto Modown", "Beehive", "I Been Refused", and "I Need a Chick". After investigating the claims, I eventually found some sources (or at least the closest things to which I could find) to back them up. There were at least two interviews with Bob Lewis (one of which was cited bi Wikipedia), where he recalled recording the demos.
Bob dated the tape to 1970;

Bob also remembered the location in which the demo tracks were recorded;

In my opinion, it was more suitable to start this thread than to jump the gun, relatively ignorant of the subject matter, and create an article for this demo tape on the LMW. Moreover, I am curious to know your thoughts on this lost piece of Devo media, the legitimacy of the information behind it, does it deserve its own LMW article, and how likely it is to being found.

This tape comes from before Devo even played a show, but it's not the oldest of them all...
Gerald Casale has an acetate of a proto-Devo recording that features primitive versions of "Beehive", "Auto Modown", "I Been Refused", and "I Need a Chick". That acetate was recorded in NOVEMBER OF 1972. It is the holy grail of early Devo.
Unfortunately, that hasn't been found. So, for now, this is as far back as you can get.

Around ’70, we’d do primitive versions of Automodown, I Need A Chick, I Been Refused, and Beehive. There’s an acetate somewhere of those sessions, I think Gerry has it. We’d record on an Teac 4-track, and this beatnik guy would run the gear.
Bob also remembered the location in which the demo tracks were recorded;
By 1972, Gerry, Peter Gregg and I had already recorded I Need A Chick, Auto Mowdown, I Been Refused and Beehive in the living room of my apartment over Guido’s Pizza Shop and Dayho Electronics.
