Ok, I've got one. I posted this on Reddit, but got no responses. Work with me here, and forgive me if it ends up being an incorrect memory. I don't think it is: ----------------------------------------------------
All right, this has been bugging me for a while. I distinctly remember a different version of the "I've got two" song that I can't find any evidence of, anywhere. I'm getting frustrated, and really don't want to chalk it up to faulty memory because I can hear it so well in my head, and that memory hasn't changed over the years.
For starters and some background, here's what the Muppet Wikia says about the song:
It was originally performed by Susan and Bob during the first and second seasons of Sesame Street.
When it was rerecorded for The Sesame Street Book & Record, it was started by Bob, who sang about his eyes, and he was then joined by Susan (who sang about her ears), Gordon (who sang about his arms), Mr. Hooper (who sang about his hands), Oscar the Grouch (who sang about his knees), and Big Bird (who sang about his feet).
Now that's all good. However, I sought it out after I remembered it from a childhood cassette tape I'm sure my parents compiled from records borrowed from the library. This would almost certainly put the latest date it could have been heard for the first time at... 1990/1991. And I'm pretty sure it was before then. So it's not the later version from Episode 2803 (which wasn't released on record anyway...).
So here's what I remember about this version that doesn't jibe with the version from The Sesame Street Book and Record, or anything else I can find:
-there was a female Muppet's (?) voice that I can't place. It was a higher/childlike voice that I'm going to assume belonged to an Everything Muppet. That voice sang the "two hands have I" verse instead of Mr. Hooper. Mr. Hooper was not featured in the version I recall. This is the clearest part of the song that I can't reconcile with any single version I've come across, this other voice that I don't recognize.
-Gordon's voice, if it was Gordon, was very deep. At one point in his refrain I remember hearing it as "two arms have I, up high", but that could be a mistaken memory.
I do remember Bob and Susan singing in it, and either Oscar or Big Bird, but to my child ears and it supposedly being from the early days of Sesame Street, both of those voices don't sound the same now. From context, it was probably Oscar.
So what else can I tell you? I'm almost 33, so I know my memory has started to fade from things I heard nearly 3 decades ago. I do recall about 7 other songs from the Sesame Street Book and Record in frequent rotation in my listening habits on cassette, so it could have been pulled from there. My brain could be misremembering. That's possible. But I just don't remember any of the dialogue between tracks from that record, which makes me wonder if it was from another compilation. Which again is possible. But that'd mean that there's another version of this song that isn't documented.
It really doesn't mean anything to anyone except me. And it's not important. But it sure would scratch that itch in the back of my brain to know I'm not crazy. So hopefully someone out there is familiar with my description. And if not, pretend this is a test post, and please ignore it. I'll delete it.
