My question is since it never actually aired, would the show have even kept a copy of this segment? Or did they immediately put it in the trash?
Also, when they say “recorded”, I take it that the segment was fully edited with Stack’s narration and fully ready for broadcast when the intended air date rolled around. But I can also picture a scenario where the producers are still filming scenes and reach out to Ron Davis for an interview. He declines and immediately sends the “accusatory” letter to the show. Not wanting any potential legal trouble, they immediately call a halt and filming ceases before the segment is even done. As such, no footage would exist.
Like so many other lost episodes of shows, I always wonder if there are more such segments that were never permitted to hit the television screen. UM did have to pull several segments over the years due to the involed parties threatening legal action after they aired. So it wouldn’t totally surprise me if there were more cases that they covered but couldn’t broadcast.

This is odd, as I'm almost certain I saw this segment on...some show. I want to say it was Unsolved Mysteries now, but in retrospect maybe it was Dateline? It may be one of those "only aired once before it was pulled" situations...or in this case an "only aired once, before the sociopathic husband who killed her got butthurt" situations.
Well, after doing more reading, it appears that the segment was in fact completely filmed and 100% ready to air in early 2002 (recorded in the last few months of 2001). Apparently, Ron got wind of it when they asked for an interview and immediately sent the “accusatory” letter.
As is often the case with lost TV episodes, I often find myself wondering if there are more UM segments that were filmed in their entirety but barred from being shown long before the scheduled air date. There are several segments that only aired once for different legal reasons or threats of being sued, as well as cases that victims’ family members say they asked the show to cover but were turned down. It wouldn’t really surprise me if there are other cases similar to Sharon’s where a guilty party (seriously, her husband totally did this) was so freaked out about the show contacting them that they threw a hissy fit until UM shelved the story.
It relates to one of the most mysterious cases on the show. I want to do a thread about it. It's about the segment of Dale Kerstetter's disappearance, and the CCTV footage. For some reason, the investigators didn't want the show using the actual CCTV footage, so the show used recreated footage. I want to how what actually happened in the real CCTV footage.

Yes, I’m very familiar with the case of Dale Kerstetter. I always knew that the footage shown in the segment was a re-enactment, but I never even considered that the actual CCTV footage could potentially be a form of lost media. I’d make a thread if I were you as it’s something I’d like to see as well.
