no, this isn't a meme or joke. according to this interview with Dan Lloyd: www.theguardian.com/film/2017/oct/27/danny-lloyd-the-kid-in-the-shining-i-was-promised-that-tricycle-after-filming-but-it-never-came , he was shown a 10 minute kiddie cut a year after The Shining came out. it's not really elaborated on whether it was just his scenes in specific or it was edited to make a whole new plot akin to the "drama about a family who lived in a hotel" description he was given while acting.
