While this isn't traditional lost media, I like to think of it as sort of a holy grail of lost media. To find an answer to the question of "what happened?" would solve what I- and I'm sure many other gamers- think is one of the greatest questions in the history of video game competition.
You guys have a knack for finding things that have been lost to the sands of time, so I'm asking you to help me search for answers. I believe that if this community truly puts there mind to it, we can get an answer and maybe- if we're lucky- find the lost Philosopher's Stone, Chalice, Crown, Talisman, and Sword.
I'll share what little information I have on their whereabouts (although it's really bleak):
Chalice:
If the Chalice remains to it's owner Michael Rideout and is in a safety deposit box like he said then it's safe and at least one person knows it's whereabouts. I'll be satisfied with just an updated picture of the chalice. But that leaves the other four prizes.
Talisman:
From what I gather, the Medallion was melted down by it's winner, Steven Bell, and the money he got was used to buy a car, as he had never owned one up to that point.
Crown, Crown, Philosopher's Stone, and Sword:
Lost. Most sources say that the company that put the prizes together, Franklin Mint, took the prizes after the contest was called off due to the Video Game Crash of 1983 and melted them down to use for other projects. But there are rumors that the Waterworld contest was held and someone did win, but his whereabouts are unknown, meaning that the Crown is unaccounted for. The other two prizes are most likely melted down and recycled into other Franklin Mint items, sadly.
But I have hope that the items are out there, and it is my life's mission to find them. If they truly are gone, I hope we as a community can convince Franklin Mint to make replicas to be put in museums so future generations of gamers can see them.
