Hello. I am new to the whole "Finding Lost Media" stuff. The most experience I have is watching a couple of LSuperSonicQ videos. But I decided to give it a shot in order to find the files to 2 Disney games that were released in the 2004-2007 time period, Yeti Vision: The Everest Quest and Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters Online. I remember these games were available during the lifespan of the Social MMO Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK).
I am not sure if this fits the "Lost Media" Category since both were released but are currently unavailable. I feel it's more like, "Partially Lost Media" but I digress.
Yeti Vision was an episodical release of a point-and-click game. A total of 3 episodes were released in the lead up to the opening of the “Expedition Everest” attraction at Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. It told the story of the Yeti from the ride, as he’s going up through the Mountain to stop intruders from entering his sacred realm. I have actually found a setup file of the game through the Wayback Machine, however it is only the First and second episode. Furthermore, upon installing it and playing it I found out that part of the files aren’t installed with the setup file, but had to be downloaded as you played through the game.
This means that the game is essentially unplayable since the servers that hosted these files seem to no longer exist. Additionally, Episode 2 is inaccesible until you beat Episode 1. So it seems neither of the episodes is fully playable to the best of my knowledge. Maybe through file modification you could get through the restriction and play Episode 2, but there is no guarrantee that that episode doesn’t have the same restriction of downloading additional files.
Astro Blasters Online is exactly what it sounds like. It was a recreation of sorts of the Disneyland attraction that you could play online. The twist was that you were actually playing with the players in the park. Of course the online component closed down sometime ago, but the download of the game, as far as I’m aware, was up online up until about 2-3 years ago. However, currently there is no way to download the game. The original game is still playable to anyone that has it installed, although without the online component. The question also remains in my mind on whether or not this game could also suffer the same fate of Yeti Vision and require a download of additional required assets that aren’t included with the setup file.
At this point I’m stumped, I can’t seem to find a way to play these games anymore unless you installed and downloaded the additional assets back in the day. Even with the installer, It seems the games might be utterly unplayable. But I can’t lose hope. So I’m asking the help of the community on this matter. These games mean a lot to me, since I grew up with them alongside VMK. I don’t really know who else to turn to so I’m hoping that with the experience you guys as a community have on finding lost media, we can find together these games.
Currently the only lead I have to find the games is contacting a YouTube user by the name of Rabbittention who uploaded videos on several lost Disney games, and even ripped the entire OST for Astro Blasters Online and uploaded it there. My interest with him is that, unlike my recent install of Yeti Vision, on his video he manages to go past the segment that requires a download. Furthermore, from the oppening section of the Video, his copy of the game is shown to have all 3 episodes. Because of this, I believe that, if he managed to upload the games files online, we might be able to play both games fully. Upon googling him, I found a Tumblr blog that seems to belong to him and a Google + Profile. I’ve attempted contact through both, but he doesn’t seem to have logged into either for a long time.
This is all that I currently have on the topic. I don't think this should be too complicated of a search, but at this point I've come to realize I can't complete it on my own. If you even make it this far while reading this, I thank you for reading everything that I had to say on the topic, and I hope that you'll be able to help me out.
